Hi

When digging into the VVT and what's it is used for the most common answer on the net is that it's purely used to reduce emissions.
Some are suggesting that in some factory calibrations it's really used to enhance performance and low end torq and spool characteristics.

I'm looking for the facts here, are there any known factory 1.8t calibration that really uses VVT to enhance spool and low-end torque?

Yeah, 8L S3, B6 and B7 Audi all use VVT for performance AFAIK. It was enabled by default on my B7 1.8T.

Would you say there are code/logic differences between a file such as mentioned above and a VVT(emission reducing oriented) file?
Or are there just differences in the mapping between them?

ive made some runs with and without vvt overlap during spool

violet lines - actual pressure
green - requested
blue - cam degree

You should not be looking at pressure, it is meaningless.

The correct way is to plot it on the dyno. There are so many things overlap affects and pressure is probably the least important one.

Anyone know the camshaft specs for a BAM engine and how much overlap the vvt changes?

You can crudely change set points vs acceleration rate, but that was simpler when older cars (not vag) only had rpm set on and off points and not load and rpm set points

Here is a stock file log from S3 8L K04 facelift car.

BAM/AMK should have:
intake: 7,67mm, 190°, 18° after TDC
exhaust: 9,3mm, 210°, 10° before TDC
