So, i've been having some troubles with my original ECU (after flash with mpps) and a local tuner told me the prom (am29f400bt) was not functional, it had errors in memory or something ? and there would be some delivery time on a new one and so fourth.
Therefor i got off ebay a spare/donor ECU with same VW part number and bosch hardware number.
Then i desoldered 95040 from it, wrote a new file with immo off and some other mods to it, and solder back on.
The problem now is that it runs fine, but is VERY slow, slower than stock and the file written into it was not at all stock.
i have found out by connecting to it with MPPS, that the bosch software number is different from the original one.. is that what is causing the problem ? i have tried writing other .bins to it, but all of them runs the same when in car, no matter how they are tuned.
I have my original ECU also but it isn't functional, i also have a new am29f400bt but i would assume its "blank" and i cand pull anything from the old one.
I've been told there could be some death code in the used ecu i got.. could this be removed so that it could run fine with modified .bin in 95040 ?
Not entirely sure how to go forward from here.
No DTC's when connected with VCDS.

Death code is stored in the 95040 eeprom and can be fixed "easily" with a bench setup with argdub's tool.
And if it had the death code, you would have a no start condition.

I think you are getting the chips mixed up, the 95040(small chip on the backside of PCB) is where immo is stored. The 29f400(psop44 chip) is where the ECU ROM is.

So exactly what did you switch around in the ecu's?

If you only swapped the 95040 chip you would be running stock flash, unless previous owner flashed something else and there would be no need for immo off.

What are these "other mods" you talk about in the 95040 flash?

And we need a little more exact info on the ECU?

And maybe also attach some of the files you are trying to write?

dang.. don't know whats up with the 29f400, its just what the guy told me.
it was of my understanding that edited maps should be written into 95040.
i did immo off on the other ecu i got, because immo was flashing in cluster.
the modified .bin should go in 29f400, but what should go in 95040 then ?
What info do you need ? hw and part no. ?

Local tuner told me there was a memory problem with 29f400.
the other ecu i got is stock in 29f400, and the only thing i did was remove immo, therefor it is running stock of course.

All tunable maps are located on the 29f400 chip(512kb .bin file in your case)
Immo, DTC's and other vehicle specific info is stored on 95040 chip.

If your original ecu had an "memory checksum error" DTC which couldn't be erased, someone flashed a bad file to the ECU or it could very well be that the 29f400 chip was faulty. That DTC can only be removed by editing the 95040 flash.

okay, well that kinda shuks  Sad
my local tuner had my original ecu and was trying to save it but didn't succeed.. i dont know if it was a checksum error, but it had been flashed before i got it.
the other ecu i bought, that i did immo-off on, i actually thought it was the 512kb .bin that went in 95040... would that mean it does not have all dtc's now when i've written over it ?

You wouldn't even be able to flash the 29f400 file to the 95040, as it's flash is 0.25kb

Who did the immo off?

Get your ECU back from the guy, it might still be good.

update for anyone interested or reading..
i got my ecu back. delivered it to another tuner nearby, he fixed it and car runs fine again with original ecu and a new 29f400.
