I always wondered, "What would happen if we put a short geared Diesel transmission to a petrol car?"

I saw a video on youtube of a guy showing off his car and saying he put in a diesel transmission so he can go up to 300km/h without running at the RPM limit.

I don't understand it though, wouldn't the engine and transmission not cope well together to produce torque in a good manner? Diesel transmissions are made to produce peak torque at low revolutions, so how would all that work in a petrol car, I'm really curious?

What are your ideas guys, what do you think would happen?

Nothing would "happen". Do some research on how gear ratios work.

tdi dont turn the rpm that a gas engine does so the gear set is taller in a diesel. if you pair a 1.8t with a diesel trans the car will have more top end and highway speeds rpms will be lower. depending on turbo setup and rpm vs power it may help or hurt daily driving.

So its good from what I see? These diesel trannys put out a lot of torque and power really quick so as I can see in the video that tranny is so much quicker.

Your car will accelerate slower with taller gears generally. It will allow you to reach higher speeds, though. Transmissions do not "put out" anything. They transfer the engines power to the ground. Diesel transmissions are not stronger than gasoline transmissions in any way. I'm talking 020, 02A, 02J, 02M, 02Q transmissions here.

the fabia never came with a 1.8t engine , so their is a good chance that engine is not stock , and the fact it wheelspins in first and takes the speedo of the clocks , makes me think  that as well  Cheesy

I've put a diesel 02J in my 20v because it was free and was the only one I could get in a hurry and I absolutely love it.

No real change around town (1-4).  5th is now unusable at 30mph but it's taller and means 60 is at 2k.

Slightly taller, 2nd will do 75 at the limiter, 3rd pulls hard for a good while.  I prefer it.

Sou you can shift 2-3-4-4. You use first gear only if want to pull a 3 tons trailer  Grin Grin
