Finally, I found some time...
There are hardware differences between ME7.1 natural aspirated and our 2.7T ECUs. I have no idea about the V5/V8 ECU's yet.
If you run these ECUs (ME7.1 NA) on a 2.7T, with a 2.7T flash of course:
- car will run lean even after maxing out fuel trims, most likely MAF scaling (hardware related) you can add +25% KRKTE for a base boost only, limp home like ECU - EGTs short to ground code (I guess resistors on the front PCB missing) - more?
However, right now I'm using a converted 8E0 909 552N in my 98 S4 since a couple of weeks, no issues so far

i flashed a 8d0907551C box file on A6 Automatic ARS ECU 4b0907558A with disabeled EGT Probes.
car runs for more than a year until now.

What are the real differences between hardware variants? Did anyone ever work that out?
Also has anyone tried reflashing the internal IROM with Minimon and validating if the hardware compatiblity is then much higher ?
... Apparently there are a few different IROM variants floating around so that may unlock a much wider compatiblity. Not tried this myself but its worth asking the question...

nice work. so basically those components are missing and if we put them in place we get a fully functional ecu? thx

1.) There is a hardware voltage divider for the MAF input and depending on the "Parts list" used in manufacturing it is populated or not. If needed i could measure out which resistors need to be removed. 2.) EGTs are fed into the Knock IC, and yes you are probably right, the voltage divider resistors for that are also not fitted.

Yes. I would be interested to see. If you could measure what resistors need to be removed that would be perfect. Also, Can you show a picture of a board with that voltage divider? Thanks a lot for those informations!

There are ME7.1 Schematics somewhere on the forum. The schematics show that divider if you follow A_HFM or how the input was called.
The schematics show always all options so they sometimes look like a short circuit. There are Top and Bottom silkscreens too in the ME71.zip so you can see which R is where.
There is a parts list for every ecu number which decides which parts are then populated or not, so the base circuit board is quite versatile, However there are not may partslists out i guess...
In German you call them Stückliste.

In German you call them Stückliste.
For English speakers the equivalent terminology is stuffing variants of BOMs
