I just picked up a spare ECU for my 01 S4 and have started tuning it over this past weekend. The tuning has been going well and the car is running great however today I ran in to a strange problem a few times. While driving, the car completely stalls out and the EPC light and CEL light illuminate. Since at that point I'm still moving, I turn the car off then back on any everything resumes as normal.
Anyone ever have this happen? Any idea what could be wrong?
I thought maybe checksums, however I use the MTX plugin and that comes back with checksums created properly and I also checked it with the ME7Check tool. All comes back good.
Thanks in advance, Nick

Does it completely die or the pedal just goes unresponsive and idle?
Buddy had one that the lights would come on and pedal would go dead under certain conditions, low rpm roll on in higher gears. It would run fine after the key was cycled. Threw a torque monitor 2 code when this happened. Think there is some info on this site about this prob.
Dying seems ecu/connector related. Saw an rs6 do similar with poorly soldered chip. It would die and not fire back up immediately though, needed to cool off first.

Thank you for the response. It dies completely. No idle at all. It does happen at lower RPM's as well. It just started yesterday since I changed my IRL/IOP. I did a check for CEL's and it came up with a "Engine Torque Monitoring 2 - control limit exceeded" so I am pretty sure you are spot on with your assumption. I'll have to look into what causes this issue. Thanks again!

I actually used your tuning wizard to generate the values for my car. I love the aggressive part throttle response now but having this error popping up frequently is not good. I haven't paid real close attention to exactly when this occurs but it seems to have happened every time (3 times now) in 2nd gear around 2000-2500rpm and maybe 30(ish)% throttle. Should I test some lower values in IOP in that general area? I am currently reading through this thread to try and make some sense of the issue: http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=970.0

For the record, I had the same thing happen when I used the KFMIOP created by the Tuning Wizzard. From what I can tell, the suggested KFMIOP looks to be correct, so I don't really understand why. I reverted to my old KFMIOP until I figure it out.

It may be due to the low load scaling of the IOP axis. In this thread http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=1375 berttos recommends that no load values in IRL exceed the max load axis in IOP. Earlier I did a simple rescale of the IOP load axis based on the MAX value within the IRL table. I was feeling some strange behaviour and this seems like a logical place to try. We'll see if it sorts things.

Well if you sort it out and it turns out to be bad calc by wizzard then I'll try to fix it ![Wink](http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/Smileys/default/wink.gif) But atleast to me it works as it should... ![Smiley](http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Yes.
that would be very weird, because in my file kfmiop max out at 145 originally while kfmirl goes to 195 originally

Well, this is all a bit meaningless without logs but it was fun this morning. It's not right yet, low load response is sacrificed.

I made a quick change to my IRL/IOP making it less aggressive and I still got the torque monitor issue however now the car doesn't stall right out, it stayed at a high idle (~1000 rpm).
Back to the drawing board.

Have you by any chance changed kfmiop x axis values in your bin file?

read carefully the wiki here and s4. you have to raise the torque limiters i don't think that the problem is kfmiop.
