Much much much more annoying to use as a diag tool. Of course it can do more things than VCDS, but general usability is horrible.
For what VCDS can do, there is no better tool IMO. It's not really expensive either.
It all depends what do you need it for.
If you need to update control units, then VCP might be your choice, just keep in mind that it is SLOW.
BCM update for Golf 6 took almost 2 hours.
