Hey all! I bought a completely stock 04 Allroad tip for a decent price. It's clean in and out. I'm going to do valve cover gaskets soon and replace the driver side level sensor.

The car is throwing codes for rear 02 and EGT sensors so I'm wanting to just code them out. I get the basics and I feel like I know what to do.

The issue I have is a 551S ECU. I've read about flashing 551R software because of the S getting stuck in programming mode. Do I need to go into boot mode to do that or can I just flash the R and be done with it? It also seems like the R has better definition files.

I'm not looking to tune it or anything right now. Once I finish my Barra swapped mustang, then I'll start playing with the AR. Just want to code out the extra bullshit and remove the hardware as time goes on.

The car will only driven if it's snowing or if my TDI is down.

Any advice?

If you disable the EGT function without changing the fueling strategy of the ECU, you have the potential to kill the engine.
Harder to do on the lower powered 2.7TT, a lot easier on the RS4.

I'm more asking about going from 551s to 551r. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I've searched but I seemed to have missed a definite answer.

Unfortunately, you MAY have to do boot mode after flashing from S to R still.

I recommend having a *verified* working bootmode setup before attempting it.

In theory, it should work, but I have seen cases where the ECU has bricked.

Thank you. I'll research the type of cable I need and what needs to be hooked up.

I just need to boot flash it once? Then I can just use OBDII and nedmoto to upload changes afterwords?
