Sorry if i missed something here, but i can't seem to find a proper topic on what ECU's i could use for my car. I tried flashing my ECU to no succes, and i've concluded i don't want to experiment further on my stage 2 chipped ECU. So to continue this new hobby i decided to purchase another ECU. For me its just not worth the headache possibly bricking mine, so i'd rather fork out some cash for another unit to play around with.

Now my question is which ECU's could i use, my car has a 06A/032DE, could i use any 06A/032XX ECU? Or could i even use any 1.8T one. I plan on flashing this unit before using it.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

How did you flash your ecu? Walk me through it, start to finish Smiley

Why was it non successful?

What is the full ecu number? 06A906032DE?

Ideally, using your Original bin and building/having defined maps for it is best.
Building off your original bin if Oem guarantees a sturdy foundation. Because no one but the Manufacture has touched it.

Some Ecus are cross-flash compatible but I don't know which ones work with 06a32de. I think you could flash your bin onto any of the other 06A906032 but the Safest bet is getting another ''06A906032DE''?, building/knowing your own Definitions maps to it and then modifying it.

If it were me looking into this, I'd find which are cross compatible and get the most economic one( I assume this is what you are doing). But the guarantee fit/less research is the exact match of course.

Flash original Bin to your ''new'' spare ECU along with Immo stuff if you have it and then plug it into your car to make sure it works and use the other as your guinea pig. Or swap it back after confirming it works and vice versa.

Best of Luck to you Sandstorm3k

Just get another 06A and cross-flash your EEPROM and flash.  Job done.  You will need bootmode for this, and it's stupid not to have.  You WILL need it eventually.  We all do.

I followed the steps in this video, which are very straightforward. After it asked me to continue programming it asked me something strange i couldn't find anywhere on the forums. If i wanted to force reprogramming and something to do with bench flashing, i clicked no and the process of flashing seemed to start but failed after only a few seconds. The ECU was set to "programming" mode however. No data was changed, after removing the key and inserting it again the car started. I have also tried flashing with a Kess V2 unit which also led to no succes.

Reason it failed had something to do with access. It has been a few days ago so im not 100% certain. I am also not willing to open up this ECU and mess with it possibly bricking it in the process.

Full number is 06A906032DE indeed. I hoped i could find the exact same one, but as of right now i can't find one. There are a few online though which are similar which is why i asked the question. As for the definition another forum member recommended comparing a few different ones and using these as a start. However it seems that 06A 906 032 DR is a perfect match for my 032DE. Atleast for the values i have checked so that is sorted for now.

I am willing to use bootmode (on the second ECU im planning to get), only thing is i am not sure when or why to use it. Also, what is stored in EEPROM? Does this contain info such as mileage and immo data? Is it required to flash EEPROM or will it work with only flashing the tune?

I want my mileage to stay correct and i know it is stored in both the cluster and ECU. So i suppose this is why to flash EEPROM?

Thanks for the advice so far, i will look into the cheapest preferably 06A906032 ECU and otherwise 06Axxx

Do you reckon i could use for example an 06A906032FR ECU pulled from a 2.0L 2002 Golf. I find a bunch of 2.0L ECU's for very little money (20-30$). Or does it need to originally be an 1.8T ECU? Might be a stupid question but there doesn't seem to be much difference to the ECU itself.
