I've started developing a map pack for the mk4 r32 me7.1.1G 022906032EG. I am mainly doing this through comparison to Marty's map for the 022906032CN (i assume it is also for a me7.1.1 because he said it was for the mk4 r32). Everything is actually going surprisingly well after getting some tips from RBPE and Marty, and watching some videos about how this method is used. So far I have defined 8 maps, and I'm happy to say I was able to define one that wasn't in Marty's file (ESKONF). I could stop here since ESKONF is what I needed, but I'm kinda enjoying this and would really like to eventually have a full map of the 022906032EG to use and share. One thing that I haven't really figured out yet is how I'm suppose to find single cell values. It's not like I can highlight a map and use the compare tools. Sure, some of them will work that way since some of the numbers are very specific (ex. rpm limit / speed limit). Others though can just be on/off cells (0 or 1), so how do I find those? An example of one of these cells is CDKAT (Cat diagnosis in OBDII-Mode); this is a single cell value which is equal to 0 or 1. What is the process for finding a value like this? The only thing that I can think of is to include other cells that I know should be around that value when I do a comparison (if there is a sting of parameters for the cat, select all of them and do a comparison that way). Is that the best way to do this?

I'm pretty new to this, could you explain what IDA is or point me in the right direction of some good documentation?

google ida or ida pro, limited to this site and it will become clear. or visit the reverse engineering section. It is a program and is used for disassembly among other things.
