Hello!

After having learned quite a bit the past time, i've purchased a spare ECU. I've now read the flash using bootmode and i am about to write my edited and checksummed bin to it. The only thing that is still bothering me is the immobilizer, is it true it has to be defeated or can it be adapted using VCDS (full version). Or would it even work by just flashing the bin and leaving the EEPROM for what it is.

Because both ECU's are from 2001 i believe they both have IMMO 2. Preferably i'd like to keep the immobilizers functionality but if its easier to turn it off then so be it.

My car is from 2001 with ECU number 06A90632DE
The ECU i purchased is a 06A90632HJ which i believe is from a 2001 1.8T aswell. So i think that should be fine.

The reason i am asking is because i have tried following this guide, but i simply couldn't get it in bootmode when using this method (i have done exactly as stated in the guide). Bootmode will work when reading/writing.

So i guess my real question is; will i be able to just flash the BIN, put the ECU in the car and then adapt the ECU using a full version of VCDS?

Are you tuning your DE file or have you cross flashed?

There is no reason for immo deletes on these IMO, just code properly.

Your bootmode setup is wrong, you need to power Pin 121? IIRC.

Adam i have done more than 15 different Me7.5/M7.1 ECUs
Power on pin 121 is  not neded, in fact when ECU is bricked it can not get in boot mode when pin 121 have power

What got me really confused are these immo off guides, why do people opt for this? If apparently it is not needed. Also, what is meant by code properly? I have done everything according to information on Nefmoto so i think that should be okay.

I can get bootmode grounding pin 24 on the logic board when making connection with a regular flashing program. Just not when using Argdubs EEPROM reader.

So I've decided to just give it a go an flash my bin, put it in the car and see what happens. After a really simple edit with VCDS the ECU was adapted and the car runs!! (Literally 3 clicks) probably also due to the fact of it only being immo 2 because both ECU's are from pre 2002.

(Soft) launch control works but the pops and bangs do not or are not audible for whatever reason. More investigation will be done. And now that i know how to flash in bootmode and edit the bin properly I'll put more work into the tune.

Oddly, only when on operating temperature the idle speed kept falling down to around 500-600rpm. But i suspect this to be lambda related perhaps, as the exhaust system is being worked on as of right now.

Thank for the suggestion, i went straight ahead and tried it but sadly it hasn't solved the issue. I have now tested the original ECU again and that still works fine.

What i think i'll try is flashing the exact same BIN that the original ECU has onto the new one and see if it idles properly. So without any of the changes.

Table:     KFTVSA - Switch delay time for overrun cut changed.
Table:     KFZWMN (Minimum ignition angle) changed.
Scalar:    VNMX changed from 20.00 km/h (0x10) to 1.25 km/h (0x01).
Scalar:    DNMAXH changed from 200.0 U/min (0x0320) to 50.0 U/min (0x00C8).
Scalar:    ITNMXH changed from 655.350 s (0xFFFF) to 0.000 s (0x0000).
Scalar:    NMAX changed from 6800.0 RPM (0x6A40) to 3000.0 RPM (0x2EE0).
Scalar:    TMOTNMX changed from 80.25 Grad C (0xAB) to -48.00 Grad C (0x00).
Scalar:    TNMXH changed from 0.000 s (0x0000) to 655.350 s (0xFFFF).
Scalar:    NMAX changed from 3000.0 RPM (0x2EE0) to 3500.0 RPM (0x36B0).

These are all the changes i had made, after which i checksummed it and flashed. Maybe i got something wrong here which causes the very bad idling.

Edit; After some further testing it seems the problems on the new ECU only start when the first lambda starts doing its work.... i haven't changed anything regarding this.

After a test drive and manually clearing all VCDS modules the car performs and idles good!

Edit: The pops and bangs work aswell!
