Hi

I'm on a quest to reverse engineer bin files to learn more about software and also engine functions and getting live data from parameters. Looking to do an electronics project starting with a OBD scanner which can get live parameters of a particular model of car that I like.

Anyone experienced with ECM hardware and software could explain why a ECU part of a certain model/series of a year (ie excursion or super duties) would have so many software updates? what's the difference between all the versions that I would expect to appear?

here's some sources I found yesterday:

Ford firmware update database

thanks for your advice/opinions
