Since i did not like the simos12 and since i did not like to write my custom patches again for simos12 i just decided to do a small test.

Plugged in one of the spare immo off simos 18 ecus i have on an Audi S3 with simos 12 ecu and it just worked..

Of-course the sw version could not be coded correctly because of the can matrix differences so i downgraded that to an early 2015 software version,
Copied Long coding from simos12 and again immo off on the new sw version...

Tada... Car worked perfectly...No coding issues no DTCs and no issues at all...Tuned properly and running perfectly for the past week.

What you need to do is simple.

A tool capable of Doing boot mode or writing the complete flash (unencrypted) to apply immo off or Code the immo with odis.

In my case the stock sw simos12 version was : 8V0906259 0006 SC100CC500000

Converted to : 8V0906259A 0002 SC800H6300000

You can also frf the ecu with : 8V0906259A 0003 or 8V0906259A 0004 if you don`t have the 0002.

Simos 18 ecus are really cheap and you can easily adapt any sw version to them if you know what you are doing..

If there are doubts just buy something similar or close to the MY part number you are targeting for.

Have fun....

remember that to buy random simos18 ECUs you also need a bench tool capable of unlock/reading bootpassword, since the software exploits available won't work from inside the limited immo-restricted UDS functions in ASW and it won't let you into CBOOT without paired cluster.

I used my CMD for that and as i wrote in BOOT mode Smiley But yes that is a Good pointer for the people that will try or do this.

And, cherry on the cake, if you know how to use ODIS and have a proper account, you can also code it to the car so it doesn't need any kind of immo off Cheesy

It is already included in my initial post Smiley  "The if you have odis" however most people don`t .

Ive done this swap one year ago already at my S3 8V with Simos 12. Now have Simos 18 with fitting software. You can do a lot of things Wink I used a 1.8tfsi Simos 18 ECU with fitting HW to convert it to S3 8V ecu. It worked perfekt. But you must know how to do it.

Nice of you to post it here one year ago.. what ? no ? Well many people could have done swap like this even from the day that simos18 came out of production but
the only reason i tried and did that is because i was not willing to re-write some patches for the simos12 ecu.

To do it properly everything that you need to know is in the initial post. I have personally helped some other tuners to go on with that swap and even on 1.8 tfsi engines but since i did not do it myself i never posted about it.. Merry Xmas to all BTW...

I'm interested too, why do you guys converting it? Does simos 12 has less functions?

Simos12.1 ECUs were only used up to end of 2014 tops, most cars built after 2015 have 18.1 in them so it makes no sense to write patches including map switching for an ECU that isn't widely used. At least not when you don't have access to infinite resources.
