Got a stock file im trying to flash. It has only emissions deletes no tune.
I read stock bin and sent it to tuner. He did emission deletes.
He said the problem is that the original file had checksum errors.
But car starts fine with original file.
I get this error

Is it safe to proceed with the memory delete before writing the new file. I dont want to brick.

1) you didn't post the error
2) you didn't post the output of me7sum
3) you didn't say what file you're trying to flash
4) you didn't mention what program you intend to use to flash
5) you didn't mention if you have a bench harness
5) you didn't mention if you are intending to use bootmode or not

Thanks for responding. I did post the error.  I posted a screenshot of it.  The host must be blocking the image or something.

I'm flashing with nefmoto.
The file is a .bin.  it is a modified version of my stock bin file.
It had the emissions features deleted and thats all.
I have not used me7sum because I'm not the tuner.  He knows what he is doing and I'm sure he checked the file thoroughly.

Here is a transcript of the error:

Failed to erase the memory sector. The new data being flashed likely conflicts
with the ECU's persistent data. The persistent ECU data can be replaced by
erasing the entire flash memory before programming. If the ECU may contains a
non-standard flash memory chip, it could be causing the erase to fail.
Press Yes, to erase the entire ECU flash memory and restart the flashing process.
Press No, to skip flashing this sector and continue the flashing process.
Press Cancel, to abort the flashing process.
WARNING: Only erase the entire flash memory if you have a good
communication connection with the ECU. If flashing fails after erasing the entire
flash memory, it is likely the ECU will no longer boot, and will have to be
reflashed on the bench using boot mode. This software does NOT support boot
mode.

The ecu is in the car. Not boot mode..
I have no bench harness.  But this error is scary so I might have to make one just in case.

The exact reason I opted out with this one. The questions asked are too noob, cant even follow forum etiquette.

I have not used me7sum because I'm not the tuner.

Then we're done here.

Do not flash any file onto your ECU unless you know exactly what it is, and if the checksums are correct. Do not trust any file anyone sends you unless you have verified for yourself it is stock or if it isn't, the checksums are ok. End of story.

You should start by making sure the ECU's flash isn't on a riser.

Yep. I structure stuydub. He's been a great tuner so far.
I would have flashed it already but that error warning is pretty scary

Well I cracked it open

Looks like a riser board to me.
And it looks like there's some solder mistake there too.

Nef isn't going to work with that, and whatever reads you are doing are likely bogus

Ordered a replacement ecu.
I'm surprised nefmoto gave me no errors or trouble reading it though
