So when I read or save files out from various programs (nefmoto, galletto, me7sum, etc) I get various different .bin extensions.
What i mean is that sometimes the file is saved as example.bin  and you can see the .bin in your folders.
then sometimes it just saves the file as only its name ie:   example
then those show up as a "file type: FILE" instead of "file type: .BIN "

I can rename these, and add the .bin,  or remove the .bin

But what is the preferred way to do it?
i've run noticed that some command line programs are very specific and it has to match.
also I worry about it having an effect on my ecu if I flash the wrong thing.

It literally does not matter, you can chuck almost any extension on it, if you like that they have .bin after them then do it lol. If for some reason some program requires the bin extension then you add it.

Got it. I've been having trouble with flashes not working for mysterious reasons. So I'm just a bit paranoid

Windows garbage. Turn off "hide file extensions" if you haven't already
