Hi Everybody,

this is my first post here, but i have been on this Forum a pretty long time.

Now I am not professional by any means and as my Name says, im a bloody Beginner.

I installed a HPA Intake Manifold and of course had the dreaded Issue of horrible cold starts.

(Let us not discuss the sense or nonsense of Installing a Aftermarket Manifold on this Engine, its in there I am going to run Direct Port Meth injection one Day so come to Peace with it....)

After countless hours of Research, i wanted to Post my Conclusion and get Approval of Professionals.

I know we had this Issue before and I am Incorporating it in to this Thread.

Here is what i did.

First solution was posted on the Forum and it did improve a bit.

FHOKH set to 4. This should disable Cat Heating which did improve the Cold start and had less Misfires in Cold Idle.
But not completly 0

Then I took a look in to LBKSOL and found the Maps to the Swirl flaps.

I set CWLBK to 2 to set the Mofo in Application Mode so that it follows all the Maps that are available.

KFLBKAPP and the others were set to 0, so that the ECU doesnt want to move the Flaps.

Really didnt show much improvement. But I let it sit like that anyway.

Then I spent hours on the Funktionsrahmen for MED 17.5 and I looked at BDEMST

I figure that the Issue is that the ECU is requesting to go in to other Modes instead of staying in Homogenous Mode.

I disabled this by setting TNUSTUSVB to 600 seconds (10 Minutes) And voila, I had really good Idle.

Always had my Polar FIS logging Misfires when Testing and I got like 1 on 1 Cylinder. I am hoping to eliminate that with new Sparkplugs.

I must admit that for the MIL Deletes I used a predefined Solution.

So please, Tell me what you guys Think, was it Clever or was it nonsense?

Thanks, and thanks for being so awesome on the Forum.

Hi, i have similar experience. Not fully solved cold run with flaps removed or failed, purchased mutliple "solutions" from others already...
The TMOTSTOFF i see is the temperature treshold, so are you sure about it?

Dude, that isnt right... I was thinking about messing with TMOTSTOFF.... No, I edited TNSTUSVB to 600 sec.

That was Mindf**k on my Part.

Corrected it in my OP

I set that TNSTUSVB  on brothers 2.0tsi B7 passat with faulty flaps(still in place) , he report that there is still jerking on cold cruising. Car already has good coldstart and idle even with just disabled DTC, and cat heating still active. Its MED17.5.2 . So its definately software version dependant. I will try it again on 17.5 car soon.

On 17.5 golf GTI high TNSTUSVB did nothing better, maybe even worse on cold missfiring, so i revert it back.  I notieced low rpm missifirng dissapier when clt reach between 80-90degC.  And there are two factor maps of injection angle  which are switching just at this temperature. So i set them to subzero temp, and seems better. But again its subjective on one attempt and not full solution yet.

do you mean these?
KLWFWHK2XS and KLWFWHXXS

i am trying to achieve same result - missfires mainly during cat heating and then while driving until it reaches 90 after  intake runner flap delete.
did you  just made the maps flat with the values used for 90 deg?

btw i wrote you on FB, but better discuss here.

i wonder why  disabling stratified did not work, should not be a problem to ignite mixture with homogenous mode

Yes these, but few days later i been able to test a car on cold, and still missfires. I checked realtime, it happends only with 30+ load  and say from 1200rpm to 1800. In that area in inj start maps have a dip, but i think its compensated by other offset maps.
During that test i clearly saw, that that missfires gone like a switch when temperature pass 85-86degC. So going to find and test other tables...

there is only one 6x1 map in CCZB 510467  file , in 1.8 tsi d@mos that  i have, there are more, so it was a trial and error and i tested it with cat heating off and this map flat at a value of 90deg. didnt help, was  missfiring when driving until warm, up to 2200 rpm and died 2 times after cold  start, i had to throttle it t okeep it alive.
There is an KLWTDY 8x1 map  behind them with an intake temperature as an axis, goes up to 140deg, switching at 86.25°C,  will test it flat,  but i am not convinced. it is for Homogenous mode, so maybe with  longer TNSTUSVB  it could work

edit: or perhaps, modify the mentioned 6x1 map, and not make it flat with the 90 deg value but lower it , it is quite flat at 1 until 90deg ath mk6 gti, i am not sure which map it is, if KLWFWHK2XS or KLWFWHXXS, do you have proper 2,0 damos which +- fits? would help
thx

update: KLWTDY together with the changes to some injection angles  during cold start also didnt work

Unforutnately i did not have a car yet, but if you have, test TMSTHKSO , set it all -48 for example or some lower temp and check if missfire dissapier at that temperature. Values in it corelates with on/off behavior. And please report results Smiley

good news.
with:
FHOKH 4 (65535)
TMSTHKSO flat at -48
all swirl flaps maps at 0, (still dtc P2004(stuck open) as in the  off state flaps are closed and ecu sees them open all the time)
JERKING/MISSFIRE IS GONE! thanks!

bad news:
it dies 2-3 seconds after start, have to throttle it  to stay alive.
probably finding a way to start/stay in homegeous would solve it.

Good to hear, is possible that it arrives other issue. As this completely turns off whole function, not just LBK part of a thing.  Afterstart idle i "cured" by simply adding more fuel. I found some cars needs a lot, some just a little, some nothing. If you find better solution let us know.

same effect could probably be done by TMSTHDHSPO single value at -48 but who knows.
i will test TVENMODHKS with a 600 seconds  insead of 0.2s to get good afterstart.

also, i hope DLBKSIMX(max delta for an implausible signal for flaps ) at 100 percent together with CWPSLBKE set to  0 should stop diagnosing LBK positioning completely, if sensor is connected  and OK

If you find, that issue with coldstart begin with "disabled" TMSTHKSO , you can play with threshold value(but it will probably mean also adjusting axis, hoping its not shared), until problematic cranking temperature will be enabled and after that will can be switched off.
Disabling flaps DTC only by masking errors or switching by codewords, request maps ect   doesnt make any difference for me(similar experience like Beginner noted in first post).
Disabling cat heating, means ecu will use different style of fuelling meanwhile and i think its not finetuned from factory or say setuped for correct running engine with deactivated flaps atleast, non faulty cat or extreme altitiude... = as its may never happed in normal situation, so some adjusting will be needed anyway.

TVENMODHKS to 600 won´t work, max value is 5,1 sec, i´m also stuck somewhere at this point
