What is the naming convention? Seems it has the ECU (mbox, abox, etc) but what is the second number? I'm having trouble lining up an mbox ecu def to an mbox original ECU file.

For example....

Original ECU files:
Audi S4 2.7T 2001.5 6speed 8D0907551M 0261207143 1037354837 001
Audi S4 2.7T 2001.5 6speed 8D0907551M 0261207143 1037360857 002

ECU Definition Files:
Audi S4 2.7T ME7.1.1 8D0907551M 20080228
Audi S4 2.7T ME7.1.1 8D0907551M 20080409

The general idea for the vehicle info is:
Make, Model, Year, Engine, Transmission

The layout of the ECU info is:
Part Number, Hardware Number, Software Number, Revision Number

Not all definition files have been created with complete info.

But in this case 8D0907551M 20080228 would actually be 8D0907551M 026120080228.

The second number was just something i added on to my original 2.7t M-box xdf/csvs to help me keep track of versions... just yyyymmdd. AFAIK it isn't official... but it looks like others use it. As far as i know, neither audi nor bosch use it.

Could you please clarify for novices the meaning of all ID parts?
I use this http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php/topic,43.0.html, and it shows me:

8d0907551d 0261 206 382 1037 35 0243 ME7.1

where

Hardware #: 8d0907551d
Part #: 0261 206 382
Software #: 1037 35 0243
Type: ME7.1

But here are the questions that pesonaly I as a novice faced with:
1. What is the meaning of Part # at all?
2. What is the meaning of each digit group in Part #?
3. Why Part # alway starts with 0261 and this group is often ignored?
4. What is the meaning of each digit group in Software #?
5. Which ECU and XDF files match, those that have equal Hardware#, those that have equal Hardware# and Part# or those that have all # equal?

I tried to find any menaningful explanation on the web but with no success   Sad

I will partly answer my question. 026 (or 620), i.e. first 3 digist of Part #, stand for manufacturer, i.e. Bosch in this case.
