Why do you have cams with overlap on idle on a turbo engine?
Are you building something with 350+ hp per liter?

Why did you decide to change cams?
Were you unable to max the turbo because flow is not sufficient? Because the turbine is bigger than your head?
Unless that is true then overlap will absolutely obliterate all power over 4000-5000 rpm.

I have no Idea how these ecus torque structure work, however when I had my old Subaru with larger cams I had good luck reducing ignition timing slightly at idle and allowing more throttle angle at idle. The result was a nice smooth idle.

Hi,

my decision to buy these cams is based on a lack of knowledge.
No need to sugarcoate my stupidity.

Its the 3rd of 4 available cams from catcams for hydro cam followers.
oem: 1013699
sport: 1013660
sport2: 1013669
hot street dirt track: 1013658  <--
tarmac rally - race: 1013664

Honestly i chose by name (because "sport" sounds lame you know) and others peoples decision.
Unfortunatelly my friends and youtube is not a good place to decide what to buy.
There is also no hp range or anything provided by catcams but i cant blame them.

Just by looking at the cam profile in the attached pdf I was not educated enough to see that this is too much overlap for my turbo size.
I only have 50mm wheels and will upgrade to 55mm soon but this is still too small for prj's 700hp statement.

I will try to reduce the cam overlap and use the 2nd cam (sport2) as a reference knowing that the profile of the cam is different.
This makes more sense in regards to idle and the use of vvt.

Take them out, sell them, throw in stock or maybe ADR cams and call it a day.
Literally zero point to touch them until 70+mm comp wheel.

I have some dyno sheets showing what happens with a 60mm compressor and cams with overlap.
You hit a wall at 5k. Stock cams made 60+hp more.

I did a test and performed two pulls.
One with vvt off which is affectively the catcams settings from the datasheet and one with vvt on which is 22° more overlap.
The Idee was to find out if catcams settings + vvt is really necessary and creates adventages.
If not, I would have adjusted the cams again to have catcams datasheet calues with vvt on and 22° less overlapp without vvt.
This would allow me to have a better idle and nicer engine during low and mid load and catcams settings on wot and high load.

The funny thing is with the catcams measurents Ii do have misfires even on wot and high load and with even more overlap there is no misfire.
I dont understand this, maybe someone can explain it to me?

As you can see with vvt on the turbo spools 250rpm earlier with this 70% fixed duty and the boost is holding better until readline.
The downside is that the airmass is nearly the same from 5600 to redline.

Without vvt the airmass is increasing but the boost is dropping up top.

Remove the cams dude and fit stock ones. You're running fuck all boost. 1.5 bar.
What you're doing is a giant waste of time. You're pointing a gun at your foot, pulling the trigger over and over again and wondering why it hurts after the 100th time Cheesy

yes, there were 4 eyes and we rotatet the engine several times and checked everything.
next idea is to play a bit with angle of injection end when the weater is better

Hi,

angle of injection did the trick.
I added 36degree to KFWEE, WEAN and WEEMRFAN.
There are two more maps which will follow.
The new catcams are 36 degree longer open than the OEM ones. 226° instead of 190°

There are no more misfires on wot when the vvt is off.
I still have misfires on idle and low load.

Here is a power comparison between oem cams (actually they were modified NA cams) vs the new 3658 with fixed 70% duty.
