I'm a big dumb idiot and mangled the pads on my 4b0906018P (spare, thankfully) trying to desolder the flash chip because I'm too cheap to get a hot air gun. Lesson learned for next time, but what other ECUs can I replace it with?

I know the 2.7t has a nearly universal hardware in that you can reflash any box for the software you need, is there something similar for the 1.8t? Could I take the 4b0906018Q out of an A4 with the same engine (but I believe an auto transmission) and flash that to work for my car? They seem to be significantly cheaper online

Thats an atw engine code, Any 2000 year (audi or vw passat) atw ecu with the correct software will work, you can even use the 2000 awd engine code from the golf. So that one would be 06a 906 032cl. I think the tt225 uses the same hardware too. You may need to snap the tab out of the big plug, the atw doesnt have immo and I guess audi and vw thought changing the tab in the large plug was enough to stop people from swapping ecus between models with immo and non immo. Benefit of using the atw software is any ecu you flash the atw software onto switches off the immo.

did some digging and it looks like the 4b0906018BH is ridiculously dirt cheap, could you confirm that one would run in my car if I flashed it to 018p software?

edit: For anyone reading this in my oddly specific situation, after copying the EEPROM and flash memory from my stock ECU to the new one, the car works perfectly. Hardware also visually appears to be the same except for a slightly different color PCB
