Even though this should be obvious info, I was only able to find scarce and mixed information.

From what I gathered:
The old k03 (for cable-driven 1.8t) uses the 2072 compressor, while the newer "k03s" (k03-052 and 053) use the 2075 compressor. Which is probably what some of the k04s use. Correct?

Thanks!

Why does it really matter that much is my question? You are arguing over possibly 30hp spread between the k03, ko3s, and a k04-001 not including hybrids. Also, another thing to take into consideration is those flow charts are based of actual real borg warner turbos, and not the cheap china counterfeits. The cheap china turbos are not as efficient as the real borg units, and are prone for boost creep due to the wategate bipass being too small. and most of the time make less power than a used unit in good condition. So unless you plan on spending 800-1200 usd on a real unit(s) its a moot topic anyway, because with that much of a budget for a turbo setup many more newer options exist that have much more of a potential power gain over these fist size turbos. Just my 2c.

I would add that if the intention is just to throw a k03s in the car instead of k03 without adjusting it in the file... no point. Used Borg turbo 100e a new chra 150e, adjustment and off you go again

Thx for the comments. Yeah for now the intention is just a simple swap, remap is a sure thing. Not only is the k03 weaker, it also spools up longer because of the smaller compressor and same turbine, so there is no point in using it. On the other hand, going bigger than k03s you start being limited in other components such as exhaust, injectors, MAF etc, so the k03s is the addon without extra hassle.

Nevertheless, I think it would be nice to have things clarified. I have seen people seriously talking about their k03s remaps while showing k03-2072 maps, sometimes even 1870 maps, which was obviously never used on a 1.8t...

So the swap is done. I must say there is a substantial difference and I am very happy with it. The boost comes in much more aggresively on the 03s, a big difference in spool times especially at lower rpm and the throttle is very responsive. I even think that the higher efficiency of the 03s is noticable, though this might be placebo. I can encourage anyone to do this simple hassle-free tuneup. (The original k03 was in excellent shape so the difference is relevant)

Due to the more aggresive nature of the 03s, I had to tame the boost overshoot and fluctuations which were not present with the original k03. The PID needed tuning, for now I halved the P and I components and the result is acceptable, though I will be doing more fine tuning.

For anyone wondering as I was able to find mixed info on the net, the dimensions of the two turbos are exactly the same EXCEPT the inlet, which is 44mm OD on k03 and 45mm on 03s, so get the respective TIP.

copying some maps from a 180hp(k03s) file will save you time....

Well this is on M3.8 so the 180hp files are also for the older k03...

I ended up with 1/3 P component and 1/2 I component. I also fine-tuned KFLDTV (which is probably equivalent to KFLDIMX on ME7.5), slightly lower duty cycles are needed for the 03s. Now it boosts very nicely. Once again I can recommend this tuneup to everyone looking for a simple thing to do, the difference between these two turbos is surprising.
