Hello,

i am really new to this and have tried to find informations about how the big companies protect their tunes.
As far as i know there is the NOREAD thing into the BIN which protects again OBD2 read and there are hardwarerelated things like the ones from e.g. Grautec.

I have a 8N0906108* ecu here with partly scratched sticker and soldered chip in it. This Ecu is supposed to be out of a S3 APY. The owner of the ecu told me he was able to read out the DTCs with a bosch tester. Then he ripped all apart out of the wrecked S3 and gave me the ecu but now im not able to get this thing working on the bench with vagcom to check DTCs and Block91.

My current status:
I was able to get it into boot mode and read out the 95040 as my prior goal was to immooff this ecu.
The 95040.bin has no VIN/FIN in it and some weird looking symbols.
I was not able to get ECU ID or read it with MPPS.
I was not able to read it in bootmode with Galletto, but i think i have a bad setup here. (Will try this again this evening)

To came back on topic:
Is it possible that this ecu/tune/protection interacts with the dashboard, which is missing on my bench setup?
Will Galletto allways be able to read it in bootmode or are there any protections (besides hardware-addons) against?
My last chance will be desolder the 800bb, right?

sorry for my poor english  Roll Eyes

No, the NOREAD only protects against tools that honor the flag. It does not protect from OBD2 read out in any way.

In 99% cases yes, because boot mode is the processor reading it. It is very hard to make some sort of protection (logic board) against this and even if you do, then one can just write their own minimon driver that does not read sequentially for example, and it will still work.

For all practical purposes - yes you can always read it in boot mode.
