Please understand that I am as new to this as can be...so patience would be appreciated. If and when I become more proficient I will share what I have learned with those who are starting just like me.

I purchased a vag-com 409.1 cable on ebay. I downloaded and installed nefmoto. At this point I just want to attempt to grab a stock file from here and load it onto my ecu. Can anyone point me to where I would find the necessary file and do I have what I need to begin?

why don't you first read the file that's in your ECU?

I have no logs because I have a boost gauge (makes things easier)

I will attempt to do that when my cables get here. I ordered the ross tech cable and the cheap, blue, vag-com cable. I downloaded TunerPro and an xdf and a bin from this forum to start poking around what the file looks like....wow; there is much to learn. I am now looking for a good place that references what the parameters mean.

First thing I will do is try and grab the file that is currently on my ecu's (the one's that APR screwed up and are now exhibiting the P0601 code). My assumption is that I download the file that is now on the ecu and run a checksum on it? I will purchase the better checksum program if that is suggested. What I would rather do, if it's possible, is to take a known good bin for the 551 AA ecu and write that directly to the ecu. I'll probably cause problems by rushing just because I am so ready to drive my car again after two months. I've only owned it for about three months and driven a total of about 2 hours.

Wouldn't surprise me if you are up against the Programming Not Finished flag problem.  (Although one would think that APR would know how to handle it.)  If flashing a stock 551 AA as you suggest doesn't work (there's one in the Original ECU Files section), modify a 551 R to suit (match the 551 AA or better) and run that.  Or just run the R; at least you'll get your car back.

Can't remember which one it was, but the only structural difference I noticed when comparing AA and R was one not-terribly-important parameter that is a scalar in the R and a table in the AA.  There are some slight timing differences (+/- 3* in a very, very few areas), and of course the different LDRXN.  Probably other differences (obviously, otherwise we wouldn't have this problem) but other than the LDRXN they aren't noticeable on the road.

I did some messing around last night. I have an ecu that will run the car but with a different ecu defective code. It will only run up to 1500 rpm. Throttle has no response. Was told need TB allignment. Don't have my vcds yet, can't do that yet. There are also a bunch of other errors because it thinks I have an 01j tranny and I have 01v...another coding issue I guess. It also has the immo disabled from the person I got it from....but I am sending this ecu back.

I have a completely dead APR sourced ecu. They said they bought it from a local Audi dealer. Same P0601 code. This is the one I will be working on...that I am trying to get everything I need to work on it.

I have a third ecu that will start the car, let me rev for a second, and I believe is completely stock. I cleared the existing codes that were inherited from the car it was previously installed in and they are still gone after it starts for a second and shuts off. I will have my car running again if I can get around IMMO somehow. My physical options are to tow it to dealer, tow it to a good locksmith, or figure something out on my own. I bought a cheap tool from china the claims to disable the immo. We'll see on that one.

Is the immo info contained in the bin file that I downloaded to check out with tunerpro? Can someone point me in the direction of immo disabling?

Sorry, I had the wrong DTC in my head.  Sounds like a mess all the way around.  Sent a PM answering most of your questions...

edit:  Ah, crap.  never mind.  Thought I found a difference between R and S/AA EGT scaling, but nope, too just had too many things open in OLS and Tunerpro at once.
