Everyone on here seems to know exactly what type of ECU they are running except me. Me, in all of my optimism, thought "M"E7 ment that I had an Mbox, for which there are conveniently .xdf files for. However, I recently found out that I'm extremely wrong. So, the question is, where are you guys finding these letters? Is it in the ECU info read using Tony's Flasher? For example:

8D0907551M  being an "Mbox"

I have a 2001 Audi TT 225, and if this above is true then my 8N0906018K would mean I have a K box and I have not heard any talk of K boxes on here, so i hope this is wrong too. Please someone point me in the right direction.

There should be a noob forum specifically for my questions... all you guys are like balls deep in this "oh, just data-offset this and reverse encrypt that" and I'm like "what kind of computer do I have?" Seems like we are in two different worlds. But, I'm asking questions that future noobs are going to want to know...

When dumping a flash file you will find different identification strings, e.g.
Bosch HW number:        0261206776
Bosch SW number:        1037360855
VAG part number:         4B0907551G  (displayed as VAG Number on VCDS)
VAG software version:   0002

Short names like e.g. "Mbox" and "CHbox" make only sense when knowing which
type of engine is talked about.  So the terms "Abox", "Cbox", "Mbox" used often here
are naming different hw/sw versions for the 2.7T engine in the Audi S4
with VAG part number 8D0907551x.
Be aware that part numbers ending on the same letter, e.g. 8D0907551G and
4B0907551G for 2.7T, do not imply the same software version, so a "Gbox" description
file will match the 8D0907551G ECU but not necessary the 4B0907551G.

You have a completely different engine and different ECU (1.8T, ME7.5), so the
description files (.xdf or damos/asap) of the 2.7T will not be useable for you.
In your flash file you will find an EPK-String like
"/1/ME7.5/5/4018.00//24D/Dst02o/190602//",  when you find a description (damos/asap)
file containing the same EPK, you found a matching one and should be very happy  Wink.

Nevertheless, the general information about the ME7-system discussed here will be
valid also for you engine/ecu.

Thank you very much. This pretty much explains everything I needed to learn. If anyone has any suggestions where to find 1.8t ME7.5 stuff please let me know. I haven't looked yet... time to put google to work. *<--best stuff i found so far (for a TT) was Tony's .ols files.*

Since this forum seems to be mostly about the 2.7, should I post my findings about the 1.8? As in, if I find all the info I need and start tuning, should i be posting my results and so on or should I leave this forum stictly 2.7? Don't want to be confusing people or filling the forum full of irrelivant stuff... but then again, all of my tuning research led me here, and I'm sure other 1.8 guys too.

I think this forum should grow. No need to limit the knowledge gathered here.

Well, in that case, what I've gathered so far has been that I have a ME7.5 K-box (8N0906018K). I have not found any definition files for it, so I am going to figure it all out by using WinOLS, the fbox definitions from tony, and an original fbox file I found online. If anyone else is in a similar situation, the files are attached...

The random one that isn't labled as an fbox is the .bin to a kbox.

Also, I noticed that some of you were talking about flashing, say an x-box with the .bin from say an m-box. And had mentioned that it should be ok... but I can't remember the exact two talked about. Would this be a list of such compatible ECUs? Even if so... my car is in its own group Sad but I had not run accross this list before and thoght I would ask. Apparently it's APR's software list or something. Includes the 2.7, so if this list could help someone awesome, if it's common knowledge or garbage let me know and I'll delete it.

So, apparently the .ols file is an original flash + map names? So I do not load them seperately as I would in TunerPro? But... I don't read German!!! So this file is almost useless to me... on to looking for an english .ols for an me7.5... BTW, is WinOlS going to find the important maps? I noticed that it'll only find like 40 of these maps and there are a ton of them on here. Will I need to worry about the ones not found to tune? I assume so, but hope not...

So... I have been playing with WinOLS for quite a while now, and I'm positive that this whole identifying maps thing is above my abilities. None of the "potential maps" even make any sense. In 3d they're just a plain of random spikes all over... what could that possibly be? So... to anyone that's good at this that would like to make a quick buck, I'm a potential customer. Or any advice on someone that may be interested... please point me in the right direction. Maybe PM me about other people. I'd very much appreciate it!

Learning junkie

« Reply #7 on: November 06, 2010, 05:40:58 PM »

A couple of things.

First, we are all about reverse engineering ALL that we can find. I have an A4 2001.5 CHbox and a 2000 S4 with an Abox. In the context of the discussion I know what people are talking about as was mentioned above, other than that it would be just plain confusing. But the point is that we want it ALL, all that we can get! Learning junkies and motor-geeks!

Second, this sort of stuff is not exactly easy to do. WIth the ME7 things are easier now but they did not used to be... I recommend that you look for some open literature on other more open ECUs and learn from there. OpenECU.org is a good resource. You can apply what you learn directly to this.

And finally, spikes at random mean you probably have a bad bin and definition file combination... They should look somewhat ordered, no matter what maps they are. Nature does not like "jumps" and nor do cars.
