of two ecu's having the same skc numbers?
I ask this because the spare I bought is the same as the one I have in my car, and the skc is identical. Does this mean that no adaptation would have to be performed, or am I completely missing something?

Is the immo on on the new cluster? Your old ecu definitely has an immobilizer?

Yep, 2001 Passat, Immo II. I bought the spare ecu to flash to so I may keep my original just in case something goes sideways.
Below are the .bin files of each ecu.

It's 16 bit, 2^16.

Jesus... Thanks Nyet. I like to think that I'm not mentally handicapped, but I constantly prove otherwise. I didn't get a immo indicator, and the car started right up and ran, so I guess this is a moot point.

Can you get me some pics of the large ecu plug? I'd like to see the guide pin. Sounds like your car doesn't have an immobilizer. Is it ATW, or? Narrowband?

This was my thinking as well. (no immobilizer). What I have noticed is that if the ecu did come equipped it would have a different guide pin than the non-immo cars.

So there's no SKC in the bin, but there are routine differences within the bin that are different between non-immo and immo bins (with the immo bins doing the check routine for the EEPROM, cluster and key), right? Put more simply, one can't just throw an immo .bin into an non-immo ECU (without flashing the EEPROM and/or cluster and keys), and have the .bin work, yeah?

If you flash a bin that has the immo routine onto a non-immo ecu you will no longer be able to connect (until you put an immo-off file on the eeprom). This I am 100 percent sure of.
