In the B5 S4 I know that there is a fuse you can pull to disable ESP. It is the only way to fully turn it off.

The interesting part, is that in other parts of the world, the ESP can be disabled by
pressing and holding the ESP button for 3 seconds, but in the USA, it does not work,
even though we have all the hardware in the car that allows for it.

It is evident it's a program issue, and wonder how one can switch on the ESP disabling function in the eeprom, like the rest of the world can.

ESP is handled by the ABS module on ME7 cars. The torque intervention it produces is from values received over CAN and processed by the ECU.

I know nothing about the Golf R, but I would assume the ABS module is still part of the process.

yeah, the abs module is the same part number as the canadian cars, yet they still have ESP disabling ability, and we don't, and soft coding don't look very different, wonder how can I get my ABS module to wake up, when i press the ESP off button for 3 seconds, like CA's R's can do...

I just wanted to add that the torque intervention (fast and slow) from ESP can be disabled in the ECU.

Interesting, on my RS4 if I press the ESP button, it goes off permanently.

Tested @ 150 km/h on ice Wink

Same here, I never had to pull any fuses to turn the ESP completely off. Europe / NA differences again I guess...

Hey Guys,

i will do my very best to explain this in english:

User VCDS, goto Stearing-Assistent 44
Go to Channel 09 which should be Steering Angle Sensor
Change it from 0 to 1

This should deactivate the Steering Angle Sensor and the ESP cant work -> 100% off

This is how german tuner Hohenester does it for 80€

Please report back!

Thank you, but it is even simpler than I thought.

Digit 13 still gets changed to an 8

Digit 30 needs to be changed to a 1, if it needs to be changed.

Do it!

Done
