I got at least a good year of use out of it before this happened, and even now it's fixable so I don't mind. I want to build something like an SI-Prog anyway to recover the lock codes off some stock radios I have just sitting around, so I'll be able to flash the cable if it comes to it.

This is the one I purchased along with the 2X2 adapter for the old stuff "just in case" Worth every penny indeed. It has kept my car out of the shop as well as several others that have been in my reach. I hate spending money on tools but this single device has literally saved me thousands.

For Old cars a 10 euro cable from eBay works fine. Only for Can bus cars you need an expensive one afaik.
