I made the mistake of installing the latest VCDS not too long ago.  I've uninstalled VCDS and all drivers and reinstalled a number of FTDI drivers.  The interface works fine for Nef otherwise.  Device info is as follows:

<Description>Ross-Tech HEX-USB</Description><Flags>0</Flags><ID>67369504</ID><LocId>17</LocId><SerialNumber>RT000001</SerialNumber><Type>FT_DEVICE_BM</Type><Index>0</Index><ChipID>0</ChipID>
Is the ID is the unique identifier used for licensing?

yes
Thanks Nye!
It seems the nef licensing support script is lying to me.  I'll submit the above to Tony.

His cable has a BM chipset, not an RL. That chiset doesn't support licensing. Makes me wonder if the cable is authentic (not a dig at you OP).

Oh well.  I'd love to use the same cable for everything.  Sigh.  It's the real deal, purchased directly from Ross-Tech in 10/03/06 when I bought my A3. I pulled up the receipt in my Gmail:

This email confirms that you have paid Ross-Tech $439.50 USD using PayPal.

This credit card transaction will appear on your bill as "PAYPAL *ROSS TECH".

Shame, but at least a $10 cable with the ft232r chipset will cure everything Smiley

Yea, it'll look great sitting by my Galletto and KWP200+ cables, lol.
