My new modular bench harness
« on: May 12, 2013, 06:02:57 PM »
I decided it was time to build a real rig to make flashing ECU's on the bench more enjoyable.
I made a box with the OBD, power and a PCI-E connection to connect different ECU connections.
I could only fine a 8-pin female connection, but it works well with the standard 6-pin PCI-E connections.
You really only need 4 connections Ground,+12v,+12v ignition, K-line, But I separated the 2 +12v and the 2 Grounds.
The top makes for a great base to set the ECU for bootmode.
Separate toggles for main power and ignition.
Flashing different ECU's with just swapping out the harness cable
I have a
ME7x connector
EDC15 connector
ME5 (to be made)
I have a BDM stand for the EDC16 and MED9 ECU's
I thought I'd post the design up and maybe someone will borrow some of the ideas for their own rig.

Very cool. I keep meaning to take pictures of mine. Right now it's kind of a frankenstein. One cable containing both MPPS and FTDI chipsets. Flip the switch on the side next to the power port (yes, it has a DC jack installed) to position 1 and you can use nefmoto. Flip it to position 2 and you can run MPPS. Very tight fit, and I probably wouldn't do it again.
What is your frame made from?

The black box is from ikea.
Its those large medium and small square frames they sell for putting on the wall to put things in.
I then cut 2 pieces of plexiglass for the top and bottom.

Nice work man
I bet somebody could make some money if they made turnkey kits like this..
I would definitely pay a premium for a well designed, modular kit.

nice work indeed, I especially like the use of the 6-pin pcie plug.
I'd have fun modding small package pc supplies to utilize them, but I don't have easy access to the ecu connectors to complete the job.

well done! Mine is in serious need of an update. plain wire pin to pin and heat shrink around the terminal ends.
