Hey guys i have a quick question.Does anyone know if tuners mess with the maf maps at all in their tunes??I purchased a M box ecu thats got a stage 3 epl file in it.M box obiously had a hitachi maf in it and my car has a bosch maf just wondering if the maf maps on tuned file can be swapped over for stock bosch maf maps or not??anyway around this??I dont really wanna convert the car to a hitachi maf.I would prefer the original bosch maf that I have.

You NEED EPL's MAF. Without it, the car won't run right. Everything from fuel injector constants to load readings will be off if you just swap the MAF tables.

I repeat, you NEED the MAF that ecu was tuned for.

Damn that sucks. So your saying if i swapped in a the maf tables from a stock ecu bin with a bosch maf and use a 85mm bosch maf(which is what the epl file uses.) into the epl file it everything will be off correct??

That's exactly what I'm saying. The entire file is based on an underscaled MAF. Putting in a different MAF table will throw everything off.

Yes. Flash over the EPL file.

Even if you change MAF's you need EPL's maf (which isn't sold separately) to use the file.

I dont have any file to flash over the epl thats the issue.I havent seen a stage 3 or stage 3+ for a abox s4 yet.Although I know for a fact that the rs4 used only a bosch maf in a bigger housing.perhpas tables from a rs4 would work or something to experiement with and log.

Nothing in his file is underscaled, so you won't have any issues transferring stock (or any properly scaled) MAF tables into it.

It doesn't seem to me that he is using EPL's file that uses the "GT fueling kit" with the custom calibrated Pro-M maf.  The rest of the standard EPL stage 3 files all used the stock Hitachi maf I thought?  If so, he could just swap the Hitachi in to run that EPL file he bought.

EPL won't tune without their fueling anymore. I haven't seen his file, but unless it's old, I stand by what I said. Every one I've seen has been massively underscaled, I can't imagine it working (well) with anything but the MAF they tuned it for (or one VERY close).

BTW-my buddy called to get a price on their MAF, they said 2199, comes with a free tune and injectors Tongue

Well, he bought the ECU used, so I guess it should be classified as "old" (definitely not "new")?  For how long has EPL swapped the Hitachi maf out on their standard K04 tunes?  IIRC it wasn't too long ago that they were still using the Hitachi maf for their OTS stage 3 tunes.

Pro-M will calibrate their MAF to whatever specs you want, so someone like yourself who can tune for a specific maf wouldn't necessarily need "EPL's" maf if they wanted to do a similar setup, just a heads up.

While I'm sure I could figure out how underscaled it is, and get it to a decent state of tune, I wouldn't waste my time with it. That, and the OP isn't me Shocked

OP: Can you post the eeprom from the ecu? Not the 1024kb tune, but the 512byte eeprom. You can read it with argdubs tool.

Yeah, that comment was regarding your buddy, and I read that comment as in your buddy wanted the EPL maf to start his own tune, not to fit to an already EPL tuned ECU.  Yeah, it would likely be more work to try to get an EPL 'GT maf' tune to work without their specs than it would be to come up with a tune for whatever maf you're actually using.

/end of my off topic tangent
