Hello, Im Josh and have quite a bit of ecu flash tuning experience. (Mostly subaru and mitsubishi)

I have a 2001 Allroad that my wife drives. After a little better than a year with the TC lockup code the Tip trans finally died. We choose to keep the car and convert it to the 6 speed that we were looking for when we purchased it.

The mechanical portion of the swap is finished. I pulled the image from the car last night [see below]. I tried unsuccessfully to softcode this to a MT. However, this does not appear possible.

I suppose I would like to flash this to the 551 m software from an S4 with no immobilizer. I have been reading as much as I can, but my wife really wants her car back. Can anyone please take some time to walk me through this. I currently am not looking too tune this up as it is completely stock. Well maybe just look over the fueling....

I am currently concerned with picking the proper M box file and XDF to get this going with or without the immobilizer. I just do not want to accidentally flash the wrong image as it seems that these are more common to hang than what I normally tune.

I could also use help getting the cluster, and abs recoded. I tried to recode with a vag can cable (genuine) and was unsucessfull. I pulled this with my early tactrix 1.3 cable and have an ebay vag k+can cable en route. I also have a back up 2000 a6 mt box as well.

I also have a back up 2000 a6 mt box as well.

Start with this; see if you can bench flash the spare to s4 M using nefmoto.

If you dont have a bench flasher, you can try it in car, but you may have to disable immo first in the cluster.. check the immo forum for details on that. .... or try bootmode in the car. tricky, but possible if you have a second set of hands to help you.

then, once you get that working, we can work on recoding the abs/cluster etc.

I will work on trying to get the spare flashed.

I do not have a bench flasher however I do have a spare engine harness I could get the connectors and make one. I will work on getting that going after work tonight.

Can you please point me in the direction of the correct m box file for mt? I am trying to gather the parts and assemble the bench flasher right now.

You don't need a bench flasher. Since the ecu is still paired with the immobilizer, just flash it in car. Shouldn't be an issue. Just remember! If ANYTHING happens, DO NOT turn the key off. You can reconnect, try again, etc, but once you turn the key off she's done.

Just sayin, he's got the spare ECU.... might be safer to start with that. And having a bench setup handy is always a good thing just in case.

But yea, I agree, if he is feeling frisky he can just overwrite his current ecu.. but he (technically) should make a backup of the ECU eeprom etc, and thats a whole 'nother ball of wax.

2000 ecu in a 2001 will require removing the guide pin from the large ecu connector. A lot of people are uncomfortable with that Tongue

I already removed the portion of the a6 connector. I save everything so I will definitely pull the image from the spare before flashing.

This whole thing has been really stressful for my family! Thankfully you guys are helping me out along the way through the part that I need the most assistance.

I just picked up a power supply and will hopefully be successful shortly.

Ok backup ecu flashed. and test drive completed. I want to flash my allroad ecu now. It says "preconditions not met immobilizer not authenticated"

Do I continue?

You will not be able to bench flash that ecu w/o using boot mode. but now that you have a functioning backup, you can try flashing that one while it is in the car.

also, since you have a proven functioning bench flasher, you are home free. no matter what happens you will ALWAYS be able to use the bench flasher with an ECU in bootmode to flash it using galletto...
