TDI conversion - Glow Plug indicator fault, could use some help.

I swapped a TDI (EDC16u31 BEW –038906016Q) into my 02 TT 225.
I could not get the immo to communicate/pair so I am running immo off for the time being.
But one thing that is troubling me is a fault code in the ECU due to the lack of a glow plug led, aka K29. The actual reading is: “19456 - Glow Plug Indictor Light (K29): Malfunction Message from Instrument Cluster.” This of course activates the MIL.

The way I see it there are 3 options.
1.   Get a pinout and see if there is a dedicated pin on the EDC16 ECU for a stand alone glow plug LED. Considering the number of empty pins and the different applications EDC16 could be used for I figured this might be possible. Or I could just activate the ECU output test for the glow plug lamp and start probing the empty terminals for a negative pulse.

2.   Open up the TT cluster (8N1920980E) and see if there is an area where a glow plug LED could be placed (as if they might have designed for it in the event the TT MK1 was ever offered with a TDI. I might get lucky, but I have no clue what it looks like in there.

3.   Read the ECU flash and modify it so that the K29 fault does not trigger a MIL. This approach simply masks the problem and leaves me with no glow plug lamp, something I might need. But there may no alternative.

I have to get into the ECU flash eventually because I have no cruise control in 6th gear. The ECU from the BEW came from a 5 speed and I guess in 6th gear the speed/rpm falls outside of the map. The cruise works great in 1,2,3,4,5 – just not in 6th.

I also need to get into the TT cluster eventually because I would like to re-scale the tach so that I can use the label face from the TDI cluster and have the correct yellow/red line. The TT tach is currently reading accurately, but I have a piece of tape to mark 4600 as the yellow line. But I have no idea where to even start with this, the threads are pretty cautious about flashing the TT cluster and I don’t have much to compare to find that darn tach map.

The IMMO and the can bus being different is a whole other issue, the cluster and ECU seem to have different CAN BUS schemes, for example, the ECU complains of the following : “18044 - Powertrain Data Bus: Missing Message from Airbag Controller” but this does not generate a MIL due to it not being emissions related. Also, the cluster correctly has a fault for the missing oil level sensor. I need to either install an oil level sensor which would be nice but would involve dropping and changing the oil pan, or need to deactivate the oil level sensor function of the TT cluster.
Sorry for the long post, I didn’t want to leave anything out. I would appreciate any suggestions, I wish I had more to contribute.

You should be able to figure out most if not all of the problems you listed, by studying the wiring diagrams and comparing the TDI jetta and the TT 225 wiring harnesses. The diagrams also include the internal wiring layout for the instrument clusters. Learn how to read the wiring diagrams and you will find the answers you seek. For example, there may already be a glow plug indicator in the TT cluster, it's just a matter of figuring out what harness connector pin to use to enable that. The ECU already has a output for the glow plug light. If there is no unused glow plug light in the TT cluster, then you can likely use some other unused indicator LED for the glow plug indicator.

Can you post the BEW original file? Or, if it is sw 371296, try my file and verify if now the cruise work in 6th gear.

Attached is the original file.
I ended up getting a couple of spare clusters. I got one from a 2002 A3 TDI. I had to hack up the shell, but the cluster itself fit right in. That solved the glow plug light and the tachometer, but the cluster is for germany and I dont think they finished the coding because when I code it to US for miles and gallons, the clock gets all whacky (no big deal). However it seems these A3 clusters are encrypted or scrambled in some way because I cant seem to find the maps like in the 1J0 and 1J5 cluster dumps that are out there. (8L0920931E VDO D17 cluster dump attached). I also picked up a 1J0 golf cluster. Both are full FIS, but as you all know the VW cluster uses a different wire harness pattern. I plan to make an adapter at some point (I just need another sacrificial cluster harness end).
The reason I am thinking of going with the VW cluster is because I cant seem to get the hood/door/trunk FIS to work in the TT with the A3 cluster (some CAN issue that is beyond me). Also, I cant seem to find the maps in the A3 cluster and the fuel sender ohm is inverse from the TT versus the A3 or the VW. I can easily change the map in the cluster dump from the VW...
The nice thing is that the A3 cluster paired right up with the EDC16 ecu for the immo 3.
