I have a no start situation and have replaced all sensors needed to cure short to ground codes SAI pump was shot and installed new cam and crank sensor.
I have provided the picture to ask what does this chip on the ecu control and it looks swollen and cracked in the center also looks to have got hot on pins to the left.
Chip in question is to the left of the blue cap. ecu is a atw passat 1.8t auto "BH"

That is the ignition driver. Commonly damaged by bad coils or antilag in the early ecu's. I can replace it for you, or I have a 018BG ecu sitting here if you need it.

Well that explains the no start situation. I traded a 5speed audi a4 for this passat wagon auto for the wife to have as a spare car.
Mechanic shop forced the SAI pump to short back to ecu by placing a 50 then 60 amp fuse to keep it from blowing, "dumn logic."
Well anyways time to get it fixed.
What is the cost to get fixed?
I already have a spare awm ecu>
Can I try starting car with that?
Can I flash a 800.. tune on a 400.. chip or is there any hard wiring such as the cranksensor that would need manipulating?
I know the slot on one of the connectors is different but that is nothing that cant be done, right?
I may just get wideband o2 and do 7.5 upgrade.

How much for ecu ddillenger pm me

400BB file=512kb
800BB file=1024kb

That's not even mentioning that one is wideband and the ecu hardware is different. An ecu like that is probably not worth fixing, but I would do it for no charge. If you wanted my spare, 50 bucks.

I have a BH on the way if it turns out its no good I will be needing the one you have 50 sounds good to me I'll let you know.
I looked at the two ecus side be side and they look the same.
You mentioned bad cops would short this chip out... is there any way to meter them for resistance?
I have looked in the Bentley manual and came up empty handed.

Question still stands, anyone?
Is there method to check resistance on a atw coil?
What pins should read what resistance and what pins should remain open?
I want to check before I replace ecu and fry another chip, "ignition driver".
I have these coils> http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Passat_B5-FWD-1.8T/Engine/Ignition/ES2050/

Grin Happy to report replacement ecu came in and fired the car right up.
I am how ever getting a misfire on cylinder 1 so new coils getting ordered
so I can have car running sound then come tuning. sai delete and k04 tune like j31 file or hammer.
I still would like to have the original ecu fixed to keep one as spare, you never know right?

Hey

Let me know what cost is associated with repair and I will ship to you with return postage.
