I've got a weird problem I'm trying to diagnose. My CEL is on and its giving me this code:

18058-powertrain databus: missing message from instrument cluster

A little history on the car:
Was stage 2 via a GIAC tune for a long time. Since I've owned the car (06), the cruise control has never worked. I always assumed bad switch but never replaced it. The switch has since been tested with VAG Com and everything works as it should including clutch switch and brake pedal switch.
I recently completed a stage 3 build with a VAST tune. Obviously I wasn't able to get revisions on this tune so it's been wiped out and we started over. We tried to reflash or recode the cluster to an M box but that didn't help. So my question is, why won't my ECU talk to my cluster or vice versa.
Also when we changed the cluster code from 00000 to 1025 my tach quit working.  We've tried clearing codes several times but it just comes right back.  The light will go off but the code remains

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm stumped.

When you recode to 1025 it needs to sit for a while with the ignition off.  The missing data bus code is normal, of no consequence and can be shut off just like any other cel.

ok we definitely weren't letting it sit long enough. ill try it again and see what happens. I'm not too concerned about the code itself, I'd just really like to get my cruise control working. is this issue even relevant to my cruise not working?

In the field where it lists engine type, does it have a G after 2.7? Post a screenshot please.

The G means cruise has been enabled. You can disable/enable it with a login code Tongue

Yep, I bought a few NOS ecu's and cruise was disabled. Had to do some searching to find that tidbit.

Gotta be eeprom. I was going to disable it, read the eeprom, then enable it, and read it again, see what's what. I just haven't yet.

Maybe I'll do it after dinner.

Use VCDS and connect to the engine. LOGIN with 11463. After that, close the module, and reconnect. Once it reconnects you should see the G in the COMPONENT field.

Once that happens, cruise will work.

I have the full VCDS so im not 100% on this but.
I see the OP is using VCDS lite.
Can VCDS lite recode modules?
