I have the below ECU version for my Touareg engine code AZZ.

Address 01: Engine        Labels: 022-906-032-BMX.lbl
Part No SW: 022 906 032 BE    HW:
   Component: MOTRONIC ME7.1.1G   0008

I found a similar ecu on ebay with the same part number but for another engine code BPG.
The BPG ECU has the same version 0008. not sure of what that is, maybe a revision number.

Will this ECU work with my engine?
Can I clone my engine ECU to this one if it's not a straight swap?
Thanks.

I even found a similar part number ecu used by porsche: 022906032BT
The part number ends with BT.
Does is make any difference.
I've read in another ecu thread that the Med9.1 was interchangeable but I'd like to know if it is the case for the Med7.1.
Thanks.

And I also found guy here:

https://the-me7-project.fandom.com/wiki/Cloning_your_stock_ECU

Feedback about the tools and the guide is welcome.
I just need to get the hardware choice step straight.

The 0008 is the software revision of the ECU.
If both yours ECU's has the same hardware, just clone the flash and EEPROM from one ECU to another.

Does this mean I can buy a 022906032 ecu or does it have to be 022906032BE?
I haven't bought the spare ecu yet.

I dont know much about ME7.1's, but with ME7.5's, you can buy an ECU that has the same hardware, and clone the flash and EEPROM to it.
My car is an Audi A3 8L, originaly narrowband ECU, 032S box, now it is wideband converted, using 032LP box with 032HP file flashed in. Thats because both 032LP and 032HP have both the SAME hardware. So a file from an 032HP will work perfecly on a 032LP ECU.

But in ME7.1 I'm not sure if there is more involved to this. I let the experts answer this.

OK. I see. The bosch part number is 0261207565.
I'll keep looking and asking around to see if the letters matter in the ecu choice.
I don't want to pay big buck to get the same hardware if I can use one with the number part number only, ie 022 906 032.

The vcds option is good but I can't find the exact same ecu. I found the same part number but the two letters at the end are different. Not sur the letters have any importance for this ecu. I created a thread here about this question here:
http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=15712.msg123765#msg123765

Only reason I said make sure the part numbers are the same is because it would save you the headache and money just in case cross-flashing it did not work. This is where you would need boot mode to recover your spare. Someone else may chime in to confirm that your original and spare are compatible. I'm a B5 baby, not to familiar with compatibility with other ECU's like yours. Other than that, buy the spare, me7check to make sure the boot loaders are the same, make sure they're the same hardware wise, and you should be good to go. Personally, I just opened the ECU and cloned the flash / eeprom via boot mode and called it a day. I used the exact same ECU as my original. I've yet to adapt an ECU via VCDS. That's just me though.

Ok thanks. I will get an identical ecu. I bought the me7 connector and I have a spare obd connector to make a bench harness. Which tools/softs do you use? So far I have vcds, and reliable genuine chip ftdi cable.
