Hey Ya'll. I picked up a cable from the thread with the supported cables, and have the drivers installed that came with the cable. VCDS recognizes it, and will pull codes in shareware more. Had to tweak the com port but after that had no problems.

Nefmoto on the other hand, opens up but shows no devices. Running XP sp3.

Where should I start tinkering?

Did you try clicking "Refresh Devices" (top right corner) in NefMoto? If that doesn't show, be sure your drivers are correct for the cable with NefMoto. I think VCADS wants to use Virtual COM port driver or something. Get the link for the known working drivers here http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm You'll have to uninstall your existing cable drivers in device manager. Hope it works, this process can be humbling.

I had a cable before that would connect with VCADs but not with Nef. Its in the bottom of the toolbox now. Had to order a different one.

That last part is what I am afraid of. I've tried to use those drivers but they won't install. Maybe I'll have to try ANOTHER cable... sigh.

It worked for me today read and write with Nef. It took a few weeks to arrive in the mail (Hong-Kong to Canada) Connects first try though.
