I bought one of these cables a few years ago not really knowing what it was, I've tried using it a few times but the software is so terrible it's borderline useless. Is there any way to repurpose this cable for something useful? It's got 2 PIC CANBUS compatible microcontrollers and a FT232RL, I figure the hardware can be made into something, but would it be worth it? I've been meaning to make a CANBUS sniffer for a while now, seems like this could come in handy for that but I know nothing about PICs. Well actually the only thing I know about microcontrollers involves Arduinos. So would it make sense to see what I can do with the cable or should I just bin it and save myself a headache?

The protocol used by this cable is fairly easy to understand.
Just log it with some USB logger and you'll see it. Also some Russian dude worked some stuff out and published it.
Once you understand the protocol you can easily write some CANBUS tools (like sniffers and such).

That's good to hear, do you know where this info is? Or where to start googling?
