GIAC
« on: July 11, 2011, 09:06:15 AM »
Previously had a GIAC flash on my car and now have a tune from VAST, but I would like to try out some other tunes. That said, I want to backup my VAST tune, but it seems from the GIAC flash that was originally on the ECU that reading has been disabled on my ECU. I even said to hell with it and tried to write it anyways and it still will not work. I read around and saw where it looks like this is common on ECU's that had a GIAC flash in the past and that a workaround was being worked on, is there any way to read this thing out without a Galletto cable? What about overwriting it?

I have no issue reading or writing to new and old giac stuff via the nefmoto software. even the encrypted stuff. what I have found works best is to fully reset the ecu power wise. i.e. take the ecu out for a few minutes or disconnect the battery cables for that time. once you power back up go straight into the operation that you want to do and it should work.

Some tuners disable the function used to read the tune. Galletto in boot mode or a willem programmer is the only solution I know of. You may be able to use the vag kkl cable and the C167 boot mode tools to do it, but I've never looked into that since I already had a Galletto cable.

Just tried that and it did change what I was getting, before my logs didn't show anything other than No response to tester present messages, now I am actually getting rejected...here is a log, the full read and memory validation functions are where I fail out.
