I just recently joined the forum and am looking to pick-up an early model Allroad.

Ideally, I'd like to get a stage 1 type tune on it and won't be doing any mods such as piggies and such for at least 8 months-year out.

Is there a good tune for my type of vehicle that would get me a great daily driver and allow better mpg and more responsiveness.  TIA

Yeah, you can make one yourself with info here or pay someone like me to do it for you. Either way someone is going to spend the time. I vote you do it yourself, you made it this far...

Or did you come to an ecu tuning forum to just literally ask for a handout file? I am kind of confused by your post.

Same as above. Do it yourself. It seems daunting at first, but between the S4 wiki info and the two community projects for the 2.7T in the Tuning section, it is pretty simple (at least for a stage 1). The community projects are going to be the biggest help. Even the ones (like the B6 A4) not for your car are full of great knowledge about maps and logging. Read them all if possible.

Hate to break it to you but responsiveness (more power) and increased fuel economy rarely go together. Its usually one or the other, however you can find a good compromise most of the time.

Get yourself a cheap KKL cable, Nefmoto flash software, ME7check, ME7sum, and a copy of TunerPro. Here is a link to a thread with various definition files for the 2.7T that was posted by Nyet: http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=613.0. That is all you should need to start. I believe the 551R is the one you want (that said I'm a 1.8t guy so I have no clue really).

Sure its a bit of work, but quite satisfying in its own right. Bonus is you will learn enough to do your own file changes when you get around to modding your hardware. The people on here are great. As long as you are trying and not wanting to be spoon fed, they are always willing to help...

Worth doing yourself and less time consuming at the start than it looks like. Most of what you need is in the Stage 1 2.7T community thread. If you plan on going past stage 1 at some point the knowledge will be valuable.

thank all the for the great feedback.  I've got no issue with getting my hands 'dirty' and am fairly competent with electronics and vag-com mods.

For the record the car is an 2001 Allroad, hence the B5 S4 tune would be the same, due to the engine type being shared.  Also, I have a ross-tech vag cable, so am assuming I can use it vs having to purchase an additional KLL cable?  Would appreciate any clarification on this.

All I was hoping for is a 'getting started' and I think you all have helped with that...so I should be at a good starting point.  Also, as was pointed out, if there is a good starting point tune, that would help me better understand what 'good' looks like, so I won't be too far off.

I also, need to tune out a couple of pre-cat O2 sensors, since the ones are overly sensitive.  I've changed BOTH sensors and still am getting a CEL and could go to the dealer to get them flashed to be less sensitive, but at $300, I'd rather use that money for other purposes.

Anyone, how the dealer flash for the precats?  Or know of it?  Thanks!

Do you mean the post-cat lambda sensors? Mapping out the pre-cats would be brave...

You are correct that I meant to state the post-cat sensors Wink  I don't want to mess with pre-cat since that would be augmenting the air/fuel etc...ratios.  Also, REALLY appreciate you with lmk that it is in fact the same as the B5 S4, so I'll hopefully come across a good flash I can leverage before I start mucking about too much Wink
