I'm in the final stages of swapping in an RS4 AZR engine in my -98 euro S4.
My first try was to use RS4 K-box software but that failed with an error on communication with the instrument cluster since my antique car don't have CAN. I also got an error on communcation with the ABS system but that disappeared when i coded the box for no ESP.
My car came stock with a 512kB C-box. I was hoping to use some more explored and documented software and I have a spare 1MB box.
Is there some more known box I can use or am I doomed to modify my C-box software?

Thanks!
Need to catch up on my German though, reading FR is close to painful.

A follow up on my choice of box.
I can't code the RS4 K-box 05611, only 10611.
I only have 2 lambda probes, not four, so from what I understand I should use coding 05xxx.
Is the K-box hard coded for EURIII emissions?
Should I switch to the RS4 F-box?
I have not been able to find out the difference between these two boxes, is it in the emission standard?

Everything you want to do should be done on the K-box. The F-box has no misfire detection amongst other caveats. As for the lambda probes, it's as simple as reading the S4 wiki to disable them.

I solved some of my problems by switching to a Q-box.
From what I've read and from a quick binary compare it seems that the Q-box is the same as the K-box but without some emission equipment (rear lambda, SAI).
Is that correct?

I still have two error codes though.

P1523 - Crash signal from airbag - implausible signal.
From the FR it seems that this is a PWM signal from the airbag box to the ECU, my -98 S4 though don't use that signal so I need to code it out from the ECU.
It seems that this is done by CWCS and/or CWCSER.
Since CWCSER already is 0 I guess I should change CWCS from 2 to 0.
Is that correct and enough?

P1606 - Rough road detection - electrical malfunction
I don't know why I get this code, I guess there must be some difference in the communication between the newer Q-box and my -98 ABS.
The only thing I can find is that I probably can disable this by reseting CDSWE. My german is very limited today so I'm not sure about this.
Is this correct and enough?

Set CWCS to 1 so it reads the PWM-signal instead of trying to find it from CAN.
That will read the signal via the PWM wire going to the ECU (I hope it is?).

P1606 - I never had that issue when fitting 551K to a 551C car.

Which loom are you using in the car?
You should be getting fault codes for the 2nd camshaft adjuster.

Do I have the PWM signal, I dont think there is wiring for it in the circuit diagram? But it's no problem testing with different CWCS.

I've just replaced the ABS unit with a used one since my old gave up completly.
First I thought that the new one was faulty but I've tried starting the car with my old C-box and then I don't get P1606.

I've modified my stock loom according to the differences to the the RS4 loom I figured out. Second camshaft adjuster, solenoids for air box and SAI and som changes to +12v feed to some parts.

Ok, CWCS = 1 should work.

Still confused over P1606. Why do I get it with the Q-box but not with the C-box?
Can it be that my new (used) ABS unit is broken but the C-box don't have rough road detection and therefore don't give the P1606 code?
