Hey guys I am new to this and I know that I have a lot of reading to do before I start to even think about maps.
My main question is how do I tell my ECU part number short from pulling out the ECU. I have a 2006 A4 2.0t 6spd MT. I believe I found that the ECU P# is 8E0910115M. Can anyone verify this or is it best to pull out my ECU to be sure? Also where would I find the XDF file so that I can see the .Bin that I pull from the ECU?

Yes, that is your ecu number. You need to read it however as there are other files that are updates of that, so you're not sure exactly what version you're working with yet.

Since you have a B7, your options are limited. You should BDM read the ecu, and backup the eeprom. As far as OBD flashing, you'll have to do some research. I can say the MPPS clones do not work on this, but the real deal works wonderfully.

What Bout finding an xdf file that can show me the bin? I have been searching but nothing has popped up yet. Do you guyz know of any community projects for the b7?

Here is the best, currently ongoing definition thred for the B7. This is for the late 07/early 08 ecus, but even if the addresses don't match your binary, the structure woll.

Your next step is to read your ecu. That should have been done prior to asking about definitions.

So does that mean that it will find the maps, but the maps may be mislabeled? IE the boost duty map could be switched with the LTFT map?

Follow the rules, post well thought out questions, and just generally make an honest attempt, and I will continue to engage you to the best of my ability.

With your last post it's obvious you don't even know what you're asking, so you threw out a few catch phrases hoping I'll just latch on and provide some sort of cheat that's going to allow you to not expend any effort.

Did you read the thread I linked? Have you read your ecu yet? Please. Do a bit of reading, nail down the necessary prerequisites, come up with coherent questions that haven't been asked and answered, and I will happily chime in to help you.

I'm not trying to find a cheat way of getting a tune. If I wanted that I would have gone to APR and said "flash my ECU". That is not why I am here but before I go and spend all my time on this I want understand some of the theory behind doing so. Like how the ECU maps work and where to start the tuning process. I have not found anything of much help aside from the S4wiki that I have already read. I dont even know if its possible for maps to be swapped how I said and a quick search (I am at work) turned up nothing for me.  I do not understand what you mean by the addresses may not line up with my binary but the structure will? To me that means that as the years went on, or revisions done to the ECU, maps were swapped around so the maps for fueling could be swapped with maps for well anything else.
Meaning that all the addresses are the same but the maps that live at those addresses have changed/moved.

To put it another way:

The map locations may differ from your binary (I can't say for sure, as you still haven't posted it), however the structure, or data represented by that map will be the same, or similar enough to make locating it relatively easy through comparison to similar, defined binaries (the one I linked you to for example).

At this point, you need to determine what you have, so you know what needs to be done.

Ok thank you. I am looking at getting a MPPS cable that is supposed to work with my MY here: http://www.amazon.com/EDC16-Metal-Tuning-Chiptuning-Flasher/dp/B00LA0BNVY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1433949541&sr=8-2&keywords=mpps

Also for clarification it sounds like I will need two cables and MPPS cable can handle the flashing and the BDM cable is what will give me the files that are currently on the car.
It also seems as though in order to read anything I will have to use a BDM Cable and the MPPS is for flashing over the OBDII port?

Wait.....are the only real MPPS those $2000 cables that I see? cause they are the only other cables that I have been able to find. I did not realize that was a clone, I'm guessing thats why its only 30 bucks  Undecided

That would be correct. I have no experience with any other clones that may work on the B7, mabye someone else can chime in.
