I've used several 2.0L ecus as replacements for 1.8T. Anything from simple stock replacement, to stage 1/2, to big turbo tunes.

I wonder if it's specific 2.0 ecu's that work. Do you have any of the part numbers that worked handy? I have a few 2.0's on hand and cars to try them with.

You could say what ecu number(s) you used  Grin

032FP and 032FN for sure. I'll look back and see if I can find others I've used.

Thanks, elRey. I'll take a look tomorrow and see if I have either of those.

i have a customer's car (AWP, K04, 6mt) that is currently running off a 06A906032MH, which is a AVH 2.0 auto, and its flashed with a known good "canned tune" stage 2 06a906032RN.bin and a universal immo off eeprom.  it has a bad o2, or so the customer stated beforehand.  the original ECU had issues from a APR solder on chip.  i couldnt scan it properly, not much worked right, and it barely ran.  this was done to get the car to a drivable state, as it was nearly useless beforehand and is a daily depended on vehicle.  the MH box was the only spare ECU i had on hand at the time.

after getting it running with this ECU, i noticed that it is in fact throwing codes for the o2 and something related to the n75, which were originally thought to be legitimate issues.  after coming across this thread, its gotten me wondering.  i forget what the codes were, but i will be able to see them again in a few weeks when they bring it back to me.  the n75 code, and inability of the ECU to control it/boost seems like a plausible issue, as it spikes to 25psi and looses its mind, but if you throttle it and keep it below 20psi, it runs perfectly.  my temporary solution if necessary to continue this way for a little while was to install a manual boost controller to keep the boost from climbing uncontrollably and causing lean problems.  when it comes back, i plan to flash the same .bin and eeprom to a AWW manual box i have recently acquired, and see if the same things continue.  that way i will know for definite if the AVH box is the cause of the boost issues and o2 code.

Just tried an 06A906032MD ecu in a 2002 GTI with an AWP engine code that uses 06A906032SK. Boost control worked fine, but threw

17524 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating; B1 S1
            P1116 - 35-00 - Open Circuit

After a short 5 minute drive. Car had no codes with the original ecu.

Looking at the wiring diagrams they both use what looks like a wideband and all the pin locations are the same. Exact clone of e2p and 800BB was made. I'm surprised this was the code it threw..

ok ive ordered a 06A906032FK ECU from 2litre EU AZJ
tested it for a 10mins run - all working good

seems that its ok with a 2.0 me7.5 EU ECUs but not US because i was trying to flash 2.0 litre US BBW flash to 1.8 ecu and its bricked

A BBW ECU is a "special" California emissions spec, and is ME7.1.1. 1.8t is (typically) ME7.5. ME7.1.1 and ME7.5 are NOT cross compatible. Your findings there are documented and well known prior to this.

Late face lifted New Beetle's do have 1.8t's with ME7.1.1, and would theoretically be compatible with a 2.0 ME7.1.1 ECU, but I have neither on hand to test with.

Very few US spec 2.0's are ME7.1.1

not to beat a dead horse, but i've crossflashed at least 15 2.0 ecu's. last being an 032MG from a 2.0 5spd 03 beetle, to 032HS, then realized you can flash to 032HJ euro a3 software.

032FK ECU with 1ML906032A keeps throwing P1115

Stock ECU doesn't have this problem. Car runs, lambda feedback seems fine so annoying issue. Makes for a good emergency ECU though  Smiley

Edit: lambda seems to give feedback but values are very much off for some reason

The 2l ecus are different, specially the wideband controller / heater circuit. Cross flashing them are a hack and it will not run correctly. Really anyone who says it will has no clue on what they are talking about

With the "heater code" you lose closed loop lambda control / long term fuel trims... "Running fine" I guess means running the wrong ecu in open loop all the time because of a fault code... You can however configure some codewords to keep the code off and closed loop active... but closed loop doesn't work properly because of the hardware differences. So realistically the best you are going to get is what you have now, the wrong ecu running open loop with a cel. They do not even have the same wideband controller and the circurty for the o2 heater is missing some components compared to the 1.8t. Check your short term fuel trims sometime... You can tell this guy doesn't do any data logs lol
