So Im trying to figure out the best method of playing around my own 996 turbo. I don't want to brick it, I recently bricked an RS6 by obd, and don't want to do that again!

I need to read the Evoms GT700 tune that Evoms wrote, modify it, and rewrite. Would I be better off using KTag over Kess for read and write? Or Kess in boot mode?

Im removing the cats, and changing fuel injectors to 1650cc. Also want to try to add launch control and no lift shift .


What would be the best method for this ECU? Any good experience or advice is appreciated!

Best method is to start from scratch. Never take someone else's tune and assume they knew what they were doing when they modded x y or z parameter.

Id be unwise not to use it and adjust it from where it is. I just hope I don't have problems reading/writing it, that is my only concern. I am waiting to get the car back in my shop and I'll try hopefully next week to read it, knowing the best way would help out.

You would assume incorrectly. It's going to be a total shitshow.

What do you mean a shit show? You think the tune unreadable? Or that Evoms tunes a really bad?

The tune in my ECU is the latest GT700 they offer. The car runs really well, I'm actually impressed. Usually I have to make adjustments to people tunes to make them right. But the car runs well!

I'm open to any good advice!! As long as its not to overwrite a perfectly good tune with stock program. Lol

This is my first venture away from Eurodyne and EFIlive, both of those companies have been really good to me and open to making small changes that allowed me to tune cars ove the past many years when I was pushing the envelope on 93 octane. More effectively, like adding additional tweaks, adding boost versus ETC map, TPS delay, and many more.

I'm kind of sad that they don't have an open market set up including more vehicles, because I've really enjoyed working with both those companies. And still will.

I'm excited to hopefully be able to tune more platforms than LS1 cars and 1.8t/2.7t!

My cayenne for starters needs some major adjusting, the stock tune is horrible...

Evo files are encrypted, you won't be able to find maps. I have retuned a car with the same kit you have on 91 octane. They are easy to tune and make power with. Start from scratch, seriously it's the best option. If you need damos files email me.

That would be pretty upsetting to find out I can't make adjustments to my own ecu because they encrypt it! Lots of money was paid to adjust my ecu by them, not to encrypt it and make it unusable for any future adjustments by myself! This would make me really angry...

I guess I will have to call them this week and find out what the deal is.

I am removing my GT 700 chat and replacing it with a much larger setup sometime this winter.

If I get a spare ecu, would I be able to read my GT700 tune and load it into a back up computer, or reflash a back up ecu from scratch and match it to my car? I've never done this ecu swap stuff on a porsche before.

If I decide to sell my turbo kit, I need to be able to sell it with the GT700 tune in
 also. So that's kind of what I'm concerned about right now.

I want to thank you guys for your help, this is very helpful, I'm glad you guys are able to share some information with me.

Any information you can give me that is constructive, is much appreciated, I love to learn and the only way to learn is go above and beyond, right! My dream car used to be a 71 Chevelle, so I built myself one from scratch, The most badass one I could think of with crazy horsepower. After the magazine article, I did a ton more to the car with all the sponsorship I got and wanting to set the car up for the next mile, it was supposed to be the first Chevelle in the USA to break 200 miles an hour in the standing mile, the car is still set up that way this day, but unfortunately due to a divorce it sits with a new owner that just takes it to car shows. I mean literally from scratch, when I say I build my own cars I mean I build my own automatic and manual transmissions, narrow and build my own differentials. I also custom make fuel injection systems from scratch by welding bosses into the intake and milling the for injectors, etc. So thank you for helping me with this new tuning set up deal.

Here is one of my achievements I am very proud of, out of nowhere a magazine picked up a car I built for a main feature, I have was never so proud in my life. My second dream car, it was a 9/11 turbo and now I have that and I'm going to make it into hopefully, a 1000 wheel horsepower madness!

Chances are they've taken steps to prevent you from getting a good read of the data on the board. At $3k- they're going to want to protect their work. You could, however, move your eeprom data to a second ecu, combine that with a stock flash, and tune to your hearts content without any risk of loosing your original tune.
