So I have a 2001.5 Audi S4 with KO4s, 440cc injectors (green), Forge 007 Diverter Valves, 034 Motorsports Intake w/85mm Maf Housing, Gutted Cats with straight pipe exhaust, Vast Meth Injection System. I had a JHM/Vast tuned ecu M-box and i believe it has fried, the are will turn over just wont fire. So i bought another ECU J-box that is all i could find in my area, put that ECU in an she fired right up. So my question is can i pull the tune file off my fried ECU since it is tuned for my setup or am i going to have to pay for a brand new tune. I have been trying to read and understand how to tune but having a hard time. If you guys have any information for me I would greatly appreciate it.

You can desolder 29F800 from the old ECU and solder it to the new one. Or you can desolder and read the file via programmer like Willem or smth like that and write the file to the new ECU via OBD even.
Of course if 29F800 was not fried too)

Is there a write up and what willem eprom programmer would you recommend? I did locate the chip it seems there is a socket in place of the chip with a new chip in the socket.

What he said.

I've fried a couple ECU's by being a complete dumb ass and grounding to the 12V power source before I found out that you ground to the edge of the circuit board and my ECU's would still allow me to dump the EEPROM contents via boot mode, so I imagine that you will be able to do it on the bench.

But I would imagine that's the only way you'll be able to do it if the ECU won't communicate via the regular protocols.

Question though, how did it get fried in the first place and can VCDS communicate with it at all. Give it a try and see what codes some up (assuming that the cable can establish communications via the OBD protocol.)

Looks like whoever tuned that car doesn't want you mess with their file. Sorry.

That's how the industry works. They don't give a crap about you.

I understand that so could I flash that file to my other ecu since it is tuned for my car? Or will I still have the same problem?

Maybe. They may have stuff in the eeprom as well to prevent copying.

Again, they dont' care about you.
