Title: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: Jjona5 on August 14, 2016, 08:22:35 PM I have pretty serious vibration issues when the AC is running and I was curious if I could increase the idle. I tried the vagcom adaptation. I have made myself a custom tune with tunerpro already but I'm not sure what to modify to do this.

Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: Jjona5 on August 14, 2016, 09:02:18 PM So I found this:
NLLM - idle RPM KFMRES - idle torque reserve But I'm not sure how to modify the tables. Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: k0mpresd on August 14, 2016, 09:07:14 PM you made yourself a "custom tune" all by yourself but youre unsure how to raise the idle speed?

Post by: Jjona5 on August 14, 2016, 09:10:19 PM The only custom I did was disabled the second o2 and sai delete because of a readiness issue. I'm in the noob section, I'm not trying to act like I know everything...just asking for help. Not trying to be a jerk here...just learn a bit.
Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: vwaudiguy on August 14, 2016, 09:17:13 PM Yes, but is there a way to raise the idle/ torque reserves only when the AC is active?
Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: Jjona5 on August 14, 2016, 09:20:21 PM From what I read about KFMRES it kind of works that way but it doesn't actually increase the idle. Once I learn how to adjust the map I might just try increasing the reserve if that doesnt help my issue, I'll just put the KFMRES back and increase the entire idle through NLLM. But still I'm not sure how to change the map, the numbers dont really mean much to me.
Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: vwaudiguy on August 14, 2016, 09:26:42 PM I understand how the idle torque system works in general, but the 1.8t also has inputs from the steering pressure sensor, and from the AC system coming on/off so it's clear the system needs some kind of input other than just sensing when more tq is needed on its own.

You shouldn't even need to change KFMRES unless you're running a super lightweight fw, for that matter. I think something else is wrong. Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: vwaudiguy on August 14, 2016, 09:55:46 PM I know the vibration he's talking about. It's worse on the longitudinal 1.8's Raising the idle slightly, while a dirty fix, will make it less severe. It probably could use some new engine mounts as well.
Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: Jjona5 on August 14, 2016, 10:11:03 PM I have brand new density solid rubber engine mounts, an ecs poly snub, and two solid density transmission mounts. I've replaced all of the check valves, the suction jet valve, all of the lines, new pcv, ultimate timing kit from ecs, I got a deal on a new from audi head when I got the car and installed it, new plugs, new r8 coils, new coil harness, new smic orings, and the list goes on. If I just give my car about 100 more rpms with the ac it runs perfect. I've put about 15k miles on the car and done all of this work and it runs PERFECT except for the idle with ac.
Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: nyet on August 14, 2016, 10:12:35 PM Start by adding a bit of KFMRES and log the results (rpm, timing, throttle plate angle) with and w/o clutch in (assuming it is a manual).
Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: Jjona5 on August 14, 2016, 10:13:50 PM Also my car is a 5 speed so raising the idle wont really hurt anything but traffic fuel economy.

When you say add a bit of KFMRES how do you do that? pick a point on the graph and drag it up? increase all of the values slightly? There is also KFMRESK which is clutch disengaged. Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: Jjona5 on August 14, 2016, 10:25:48 PM Also I did pay a tuner who claimed could fix my readiness issues and the idle. He did neither. So I decided to learn how to do it. Bought the cable, vcds, and started on this forum. Got the readiness knocked out but still have the idle to fix. Crashing out for the night and I have a teacher work day tomorrow. So I'll check back when I can but definitely after 4 central time.
Thanks again, J Title: Re: Post by: macxxx on August 14, 2016, 11:29:06 PM Did you try to raise idle rpm by adaptation , as I remember channel 1 using vcds/vagcom.

I could get the value to change but it didn't actually do anything. Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: Jjona5 on August 15, 2016, 04:54:32 AM Did you get a refund? Nope, he tried quite a few times to remote flash new versions of his tune but after it bricked on me a few times he kind of gave up. It bricked a few days after he would flash it because of a checksum error. Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: Carsinc on August 15, 2016, 06:55:06 AM Ok only because I just saw this in another thread, people have used lemmiwinks to raise the idle,
with stiffer mounts to reduce vibration. I'm not sure if increasing torque reserves or just raising the idle is a better move I do know you only need a little more revs to smooth it out. Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: Jjona5 on August 15, 2016, 09:18:27 AM post your original file. This is what I'm using right now. I don't have my original file right now as I didn't know to pull it before I had it tuned first. I modified the tune I got from the tuner to fix my readiness issue and the checksum brick issue it was having. Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? I tried lemmiwinks and it didnt change the idle at all. I tried multiple values and even got into vcds after I made a lemmi adjustment to make sure the values were actually changed and they were. How does it run? Title: Re: 1.8t awm vw passat 2003, is there a way to increase idle when AC is on? Post by: Jjona5 on August 15, 2016, 03:36:46 PM Runs pretty well. I decided to buy another tune from a reputable person. I still plan on learning how to do this though. Plus I'm sure someone will want to raise their idle one day.
