Title: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: TRespect on February 27, 2018, 03:44:51 AM Hi Guys,
I need your help here. I have a Touareg 1. I bought it with one key. I bought a new key and used vcds to do the key matching. I retreived the skc pin code from the Touareg with vag commander. I started the key matchine, there was a message I can't remember on the dashboard then nothing. I tried the old key first. Now when I put the key and turn it to ignition position I have no lights on the dashboard and vcds does not work since there is no ignition. I tried the vcds touareg 7l wake-up procedure. key in => apply brakes 20sec then start the procédure over again but I can not talk to the immobilizer module. I have an eeprom dump of the treg but I think I need a tool to wake up the immobilizer. Any help would be very very much appreciated. Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: TRespect on February 27, 2018, 08:35:41 AM I used vag commander to get the skc only. I used vcds to do the key adaptation.

I ended up towing it to a shop. The guy reprogrammed the original key and the new key. all is fine. So is the ecu backup any good in this kind of situation or does the immobilizer have a separate bin file? i haven't gone through all the threads here to understand how things work in the touareg. I'd like to get the tools and the software available to debug and repair this kind of stuff myself. I will get some spare parts to play with but I need help with the tools and software. Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: aef on February 28, 2018, 06:20:10 AM Have you worked with genuine VCDS?
Did you enter the number of keys to match WITH the existing key? Hard to give you advice of you cant say what happened, what engine, which immo version. ::) Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: TRespect on February 28, 2018, 07:15:53 AM Genuine vcds.
Car is touareg v6 3.2 7LA 2004. Immobilizer is immo 3 I guess. I had only one key. Vcds showed 2 keys before I started the procedure. I put the original key in, put 2 for two keys in key count and started the matching. There was a message on the touareg screen then nothing. I removed the key but when I tried it again there was no lights on the dash. No light and no odb communication. I used the rossteck procedure to wake up the odb bus: put new key in, apply the brakes 20 sec but the imm module kept silent. my question: what do I need to backup other than the ecu to go back in case of problems next time. The car is working now. The guy reprogrammed it but I was not there so I don't know what he did. I want to get the tools and soft to be able to work on the car myself. the immo module is very cheap on ebay, starts at 5$ !! I only know the stearing lock ecu which is a small box. Immo3 is in the dash as far as i know. This is why you do the key learning within the dash with vcds according to ross tech documentation. short: you used genuine vcds and your dash was dark? hmm :-\ Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: TRespect on February 28, 2018, 07:38:54 AM this is the imm according tp car model:

I'm now going to get all the components to play with on a bench. Would a restore of the ecu bin file I took with vag commander have solved the issue? Or is the immobilizer data stored on the immobilizer? I even thought the guy just restored the backup bin file I sent him. I wasn't available when the car was repaired. (some kind of motion sensor)
Your car has immo 3 with just the ecu and dash + key/transponder + coil to read the key thats it read the dash read the ecu Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: TRespect on February 28, 2018, 09:43:26 AM does this mean that backing up the ecu like I did and restoring it would bring the back to life is things fail in the future?

Dead cluster makes me think a desolder may be in order here. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: aef on February 28, 2018, 10:02:24 AM attach the file you have
i still do not understand how the key learning process "killed" your dash. makes no sense at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj3K04eMV7w Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: TRespect on February 28, 2018, 10:32:25 AM I already watched that video.
a little detail concerning the Touareg: When you put a new key (virgin) you cannot turn on the dash lights. I mean in the ignition position the dash stays dead. In the video you can go to ignition with a virgin or unauthorized key. here is the rosstech wiki about the how to add a new key. I found out later but this procedure didn't work. It only woke up the central locking module. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Touareg_(7L)_Access/Start_Authorization Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: TRespect on February 28, 2018, 10:34:09 AM Is this one of those instances where he would need to either use a virgin eeprom bin for immo or desolder eeprom and restore on the bench? But I'm trying to understand. I'm even ready to retry the procedure just to see what's gonna happen. But this time I want to have the tools and the backup files to do the job myself. Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: TRespect on February 28, 2018, 10:39:12 AM attach the file you have I'm not familiar with the security issues involved in publishing my car info on the internet. If there are no security issues in making my ecu file public I will upload it. I used vag commander with a dumb usb cable. I had some trouble making it connect and I found out today that it was not working correctly because it has the ch340 chip. I managed to backup the ecu anyway and got the skc out of it. I did sent it to the guy but he said that it was not enough. I will get more info on what he did later. Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: TRespect on February 28, 2018, 10:53:37 AM I had these faults before doing the key matching.
I erased them because I changed the battery lately and I thought they were related to low voltage. 3 Faults Found: 01299 - Diagnostic Interface for Data Bus (J533) 005 - No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation - Intermittent 01341 - Control Module in Instrument Panel On Comfort CAN (J285) 004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent 01176 - Key 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent but the car was running fine. So maybe the dash module was faulty. Title: Re: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: QuickS4 on February 28, 2018, 10:54:10 AM The car is now working fine. The guy who brought the car back to life said he had to flash 4 components: ecu, dash, kessy and something else I don't remember all using the odb port !!! Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: TRespect on February 28, 2018, 11:32:18 AM By the way I have another issue but it is not related to the key programming failure. The cluster gauges do not light up. the only thing which lights up is the lcd screen. I think the cluster backlight died but this happened a few weeks before the key programming.
I will have to open the cluster and take a look at the backlight. Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: cherry on February 28, 2018, 04:43:12 PM Immo is NOT in dash!
Totally forget dash in 7L for immo. You can read pin via OBD only from engine ecu, or you read the 93C86 eeprom from kessy with programmer. There is also a free online-decoder for kessy http://www.canblocker.com/ Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: aef on March 01, 2018, 01:11:18 AM :o

There is also a free online-decoder for kessy http://www.canblocker.com/ The guy did it all with odb port while I could not connect to the odb port with both a vcds cable and a ch340 cable. I know the ch340 is crap now. So the question is: is he telling the truth or did he have to do bench flashing. he said he didn't remove anything. Did he flash stuff or did he just put back the ecu bin file I backuped? I mean whet do you guys think about waking it all though odb port only? So you're saying that immo 3 for Touareg is kessy and ecu only? Do you need to remove the kessy to get backup the content? I'm getting FT232R chip cable soon. is it enough with the nefmoto tools available here to backup and restore, kill, brick and then bring it back to life :-) Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: aef on March 01, 2018, 07:15:04 AM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rleOEWWF6v8
There is another thread on another board regarding a 2008 touareg key learning and he had to precode the key OR buy a precoded key from vag. This might be the case with your 2004 car too?! Title: Re: Touareg 7L (2004) no ODB communication after key matching failure Post by: TRespect on March 01, 2018, 08:47:28 AM The guy talked about preparing the key. This is ok for the new key but why the original key didn't work I don't know.

What do I need (please amend or correct): 1. A FT232RL cable ( I prefer this instead of fiddling with the vcds cable) 2. NefMoto programmer What about cloning the kessy module? What tools to use. I found this intersting device. It looks like this would have saved me the trouble of towing the car since it can switch on the car to ignition !!! Do I understand it right?
