Title: ME7.x vs M3.8.x - reflashing and issues Post by: giowz0rd on February 23, 2022, 08:19:12 AM Hello guys,
I have made some research here about those ECUs and I wanna check if my assumptions are right (or wrong :P) * ME7.x can be flashable through OBDII using a KKL cable (FTDI) and NefMoto's software * M3.8.2 is used on drive by cable and has a non-flashable memory, so, it can't be flashed through OBD/BDM * M3.8.3 is used on drive by wire and has a flashable memory, so, we can write through OBDII. To read, we need to unsolder the chip. Assuming that this is right, I got a question: * There is a A4 V6 2.8 30V here in my country that I was looking to buy to be my first remap lab. The ECU is a M3.8.2. I was thinking of swap the M3.8.2 for a ME7.5 - I know it will be time consuming and will probably require a lot of knowledge, but since it will be my lab I guess it will be a great opportunity to learn. The other option is to skip all those adaptation work and buy direcly a car with ME7.x ECU (1.8T A3 with DBW (180hp)) By your experience, what path would you choose? About your A4, use the search function, it's been discussed already in the last few weeks. And no, you can't install an ME7.5 ECU on a 6 cylinder engine, so stop thinking about AGU ECUs on a V6 engine lol! It was supposed to use ME7.1.1 from V6 2000+, not ME7.5 from A3. So, A3 1.8T 180hp uses a ME7. Clarified! Most v6 up until 2002 are me7.1 not me7.1.1 Title: Re: ME7.x vs M3.8.x - reflashing and issues Post by: giowz0rd on February 23, 2022, 09:02:47 AM Still wrong. Most v6 up until 2002 are me7.1 not me7.1.1 Here in Brazil I found some that uses ME7.1.1, but I will pay attention when looking for one. I will research more to see about the mods necessary for the ECU swap. The swap from M3.8 to ME7 is a very very labor time and money involved. I helped a friend do that in his MK4 gti. The whole car need to be dissasembled to install complete wiring from donor car. A lot of parts change connector style. Its a big deal project for us that live here in Brazil. Things here are crazy expensive, you know... Get an factory ME7 car. The swap from narrowband to wideband on those ME7 is much more easy and less cost. Im not a 100% sure but i do believe it would be a plug and play solution to have port flashing abilities for your car. I am still in research to decide if it would be a nice car project or not. The focus on reflashing, initially, would not be full performance, but having a practical sandbox to apply my knowledges. You can do simple things like vary fueling and timing but you'll never get more HP out of it from a tune. Like all of Audi's NA motors (except for the v10) a huge waste of time and effort on everyone's part. |
