Title: ECU Swap/ No SKC
Post by: xr500t on August 07, 2013, 04:51:17 AM
Hey Guys,

I was trying to piggy back on another thread, but didn't get much love ;) I know a lot of you may find my questions simple, but hey, who knows, somebody else may find it useful in the future.

Trying to swap ecu's to correct old ecu issue.

I'm working on my friends B5 Passat 2.8. I bought a replacement ECU 01 Audi A6 2.8(3B0 907 551 BS ME7.1 0001) identical to the stock ECU. I've tried to read as many posts on this board as well as others, thought no board even comes close to this one! So here's some quick questions and what I think I know.

1. I want to swap ECU's and I need the SKC from the cluster and from the ECU in order to do an adaptation for Immo purposes and keys....to get the car up and running.

2. I need Vag Tacho or Vag commander to read both the cluster and ECU.

3. Looks like I can do it thru the OBD port and a strong 12v supply.

Questions:

1. Do I need VAG COM from Ross tech to do the adaptation as well? (it seems I don't) and if so, will the basic be sufficient?.

2. Vag Tacho varies in price depending on who you get it from, seems version 2.5 is the one to get, does it matter who I get it from or avoid?

3. Vag commander has a few different flavors as well Vag k+can 1.4, 5.5, 3.6....any suggestions on these?

4. Super Vag K+can 4.8 seems to be all in one (as they say, may be too good to be true)  Any thoughts?

5. Will the new ECU "brick" once I install it to read the pin (just turning power on).

6. Am I better off doing an Immo defeat on the old ECU, or is it the cluster that it's done on or both?

Any help/ suggestions would be awesome!

Thanks....Ray

If you want to adapt the immobilizer using the login code, yes, you need rosstech. If you want to clone one immobilizer to the second ecu, you can use argdubs tool, linked in the "Understanding/retrofitting immobilizer" sticky, but it will require putting the ecu in bootmode to write. Vag-commander and Vag-tacho are both available for download here on the site and worth with any dumb FTDI based cable. Most people have had the best luck with Vag K+CAN commander v2.5. The immo defeat is done in the ecu, not the cluster.

Immo off in the ecu is oke, you cant do that in the cluster ( immo off in the cluster is not possible )

Thanks guys....ddil & MK2

Quick easy and to the point! That's what I wanted....I got a cable on the way, and I'll go to town right after.
