By the way, FTDI chip sometimes is not really FTDI, but chinese clone. And this is not even FT232RL.
The problem, clone doesnt work with NEW driver from FTDI.

I solved an issue of one this soldering the 4-5 pins, but still don't recognized by Windows XP-SP3 in old PC Pentium III (in the garage, used for diagnostics with ELM327 properly), recognized but not connects in newer PC P4 with the same XP version, BUT recognized AND WORKS in the same P4, same XP version installed in other HD (that I keep after new installation few months ago).

Chip market FT232RL. Recognized my Mprog as 232R and readable by Mprog.
Tested with Multiecuscan, AlfaOBD and ME7EEPROM (bootmode) on a Alfa Romeo ME7.3.1

This interface has a switch to let you choose which pin to connect the K-Line to. Standard i 7, but Fiat/Alfa uses pin 3 for airbag, 1 for ABS etc.

EDIT:
Reprogrammed to Galletto serial using Mprog, and tested theat Galletto recognize the cable.

Bought this one and it worked fine with Windows Vista. Shipping was a bit of an issue though. Seems to be an international seller claiming to ship from IL. Hard to be mad at them though as their responses were prompt and REALLY polite.

Did you have to do any modding to get it to work? I saw on BMW forums it requires reprogramming with Mprog.

Vag commander1.4 vag-k+can ebay cables work for flashing me7_95040.exe and galleto1260.exe with flashing the cable its self to match the hex code serial on cable or vice versa .... blue vag kkl 409.1 blue cables work for reading in me7logger and i think it also worked with me7_95040.exe reading and flashing but i cant remember to well i also had a ecu error eventually with using this cable p0601 checksum error must have not written the file correctly. vag tacho 5.0 cables only work with vag tacho 5.0 so far drivers are a pain on this one!

Does anyone happen to have any valid links for known functional cables? Maybe I'm mistaken but all of the ones I've checked are no longer available. Also (and this will show my noobishness to Motronic tuning) is there some reason why the Galletto cable I have wont connect at all for logging? Any info or direction would be appreciated.

Using nefmoto. I pulled the generic OBD2 cable off of my Dyna Packs to see if it might work as well, confirmed its an FTDI based usb to serial setup which it is. Its recognized by NefMoto as a cable just like my Galletto is recognized as EOBD and unfortunately I still can't connect. Odd.

I have a third cable on the way that looks to be the same as many of the old dead links so I'll give that a shot this afternoon.

Hello gents,

I was trying to set up me7logger with various cables(vcds,cheap blue kkl),but none of them worked so I went on ebay and got myself a proper FT232RL KKL cable. Price is a bit on the high end at £20,but i have to say it works straight out of the box, just pluged in the laptop windows istalled the driver for the cable and VCP and VOALA working me7logger. All I had to do is set me7logger for the correct comport.

You can use an FT232 breakout board with a CH340 cable. Open the CH340 cable and there should be an LM339 chip. Connect the RX pin on the LM339 to the TX on the breakout board and the TX pin on the LM339 to the RX on the breakout. Cut the traces between the LM339 and the CH340. Plug the FT232 breakout board into your computer. Done.

Also, the 'FIATECUSCAN' cables with the selector switch have worked for me.

if the cable supports CAN and K-line, how do you select which one the cable is going to drive? Surely this makes it a non dumb cable, as there needs to be a protocol to select this?

I've seen other cables with pin 2,10 connected for SAE J1850 which I also assume rules them out from working..

Anyone got a link to a UK ebay/amazon seller that has a know working cable?

Hi everybody, i bought a blue ft232 cable on Ali (CARSTAR TOOL Store) and i was unable to log. So i bought another blue cable on the bay (tuning-fanatics-shop) which cost 3 times the Ali one and still can't log. Basically i can't log with any cable except the VCDS one. I was thinking that the cables were the problem till i found a thread saying that it may be my cluster interfering. So i cut the k-line cable at the ecu and run a seperate wire from the ecu to OBD port and that solved my problem(thank you very much guys). Both cables work very well (picture attached of the Ali one).

I had this same cable and for some reason couldnt detect anything using windows 10, then switched to win xp and worked great, but i needed one that works with win 10 so i got one from amazon that works with most of the tools without any problem. ill check the link and edit my reply.
