Title: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: Dave9n3 on January 22, 2016, 03:29:54 AM Hi,
I'm interested in taking an EEPROM dump of my instrument cluster as a backup. I have vag+k can commander 2.5 and also vagdashcom. I also have a dumb FTDI cable that I use with nef flasher, I'm assuming I should be able to use this cable with either of the two above mentioned bits of software? Is there anything I should be aware of before I take a copy of the data safety wise so I don't muck anything up. TIA Title: Re: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: adam- on January 22, 2016, 03:43:07 AM Use EEPROM Programmer 1.19 with your FTDI cable and it'll work fine.
Or can commander with the FTDI cable, make sure its set to k-line. Choose appropriate cluster and read. I find 1.19 to be more reliable. I was worried as I heard the VDO clocks can be a pain. I was also told the dump would be encrypted? Not sure how true that is though Title: Re: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: Lost on January 23, 2016, 01:52:35 AM I'll upload it when I get home. Don't let me forget. :) Please do. Thank you. Title: Re: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: Dave9n3 on January 25, 2016, 10:24:03 AM This is what you're after i think?
Title: Re: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: Dave9n3 on January 25, 2016, 10:28:37 AM To add to my thread, i tried to get a read from the instrument cluster but was unable to get a complete read. the data would stop reading mid way through. Ive used VAG K+Can 2.5, VAG eeprom programmer 1.19 and VAG k pin reader. Is there any reason why i may not have been able to get a full read. Using a normal ftdi kkl cable.
here is the read i managed to get. Title: Re: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: Lost on January 25, 2016, 12:10:27 PM This is what you're after i think? Thank you very much!! Title: Re: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: Lupsnow on January 30, 2016, 04:44:00 AM I tried to read my valleo immo 3 eeprom 24c04 with the vag eeprom programmer v1.19g but I can't seem to connect to anything with it...
I have a rosstech 12.12 Hex+can clone usb cable. The cable works without any problems for VCDS 12.12.3. But any other software I try doesn't work even with boot in intelligent mode unchecked... I have the rosstech vcp drivers installed and loaded. I tried in the eeprom programmer set on usb connection and com 1. Title: Re: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: adam- on January 30, 2016, 08:55:30 AM Try a dumb cable. Is it assigned to Com 1?
Title: Re: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: Lupsnow on January 31, 2016, 09:45:26 AM I ordered a new cable... So I will see if it works than.
But thanks for your reply! Title: Re: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: Dave9n3 on February 01, 2016, 03:24:34 PM Still unable to get a cluster read of mine :( I've tried a fair few programs and it seems to say EEPROM area blocked. Dash is VDO V06
Title: Re: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: eliotroyano on February 03, 2016, 05:45:11 AM I have used Vag Eeprom programmer in the past and it is a nice software but I have notice that V1.19 versions around there are something unstable. Seems to me that V1.18 is better. Another trick during my research, tests and usage that makes V1.18 & V1.19 versions works better is to update KKL dll driver to same one used by VCDS Lite, for example. In other words take RT-USB.dll from VCDS directory, copy into Vag Eeprom programmer directory and rename as existing file VAGUSB.dll. That have done wonders with some tricky Clusters and Airbag modules too. Also don´t forget to check USB as port option.

Just put directory in hard disk root. Title: Re: Taking a backup of instrument cluster EEPROM Post by: Lupsnow on February 11, 2016, 04:34:41 AM It worked for me with my new KKL cable with ch340 chip!!
