I have a generic BLUE VagCom Cable.  trying to connect to my 98 b5 a4 audi.  VagCom 409-1 connects fine.  Here is the log for nefmoto.

It's possible that the 1998 B5 A4 doesn't support the KWP2000 protocol.

VagCom uses the KWP1281 protocol to connect, which is why it may work.

One more test you could do is to try to connect using the MonoScan software. It uses the older KWP1281 protocol.

That's an older ECU that doesn't support KWP2000.

I have the same problem, Audi A4B5. MonoScan doesn't either work.
Just gives timeout errors.
