Author Topic: Error trying to read ecu 1.8t AVJ  (Read 3361 times)

Hello everyone,

This is my second post in this forum so I apologize in advance if I my write is poor...

First, this is all the info I have of my car:
Europe Audi A4 1.8T AVJ 2002 150HP
hardware 0261207778
software 1037363466
bosch nº 8E0909518M

Now I bought a KKL FTDI FT232RL and a MPPS V16 cable.

With the KKL FTDI FT232RL with nefmoto I could read the ecu info and see the DTC codes, and when I selected the layout 29F800BB and it says: RequestUpload service is not supported. RequestUpload may have been disabled by aftermarket engine software.
I tried to disconect and connect again, try differents baud rates but it doesnt work.

Then I tried using MPPS V16 in virtual box. MPPS is able to identify the ECU correctly and displays the hardware/software numbers, but when attempting to read the flash I receive an error, if I remember correctly it was "Error reading flash".

As far as I know the ECU is stock, although the vehicle has had several previous owners, so I cannot be completely sure. Has anyone worked with this specific ECU/software combination before and got this error in nefmoto?

If anyone has any information or Im missing something, I'd be happy to answer any questions to provide more information. I will update screenshots of the errors tomorrow.

Hello again, Im trying again to read the ecu file before write another file, just in case.


This time like before, I could read the ECU info and DTCs, everything works properly until I try to read the ECU file in nefmoto, a warning light appears in the dash, then nefmoto wont get the ecu info or the DTCs, even VDCS cant get the fault codes... this also happens if I try to read it with MPPS, seems like the car enters in a safe mode or something and I need to turn off the ignition and turn it on to start again. I also tried to read it with different baud rates, layout templates and without the fuse 15 and 24 without success.
 
I attached screenshots of the error in nefmoto and photos of the dash before trying to read and after I tried to read the ECU with nefmoto or MPPS V16. The next step is to get the ECU and power it with a external power supply and try it in bootmode. If that doesnt work either I will buy another ECU and write the file that VWvinny shared and I appreciate it a lot, but I think the right thing to do is to retrieve the original file from my car...

MPPS should be able to read and write it. I would take out the ECU and read it on boot.

Use flashdock to read the ECU in boot mode. Marty made the program.

Also if you don’t care about the file on the ECU you should be able to perform a flash of the ECU without any issue. You can use flashdock for this.

Also always remember that when your key is in the on position (acc) prior to engine start you should always see your check engine light. This indicates there is communication between the cluster and the ECU. If your check engine light isn’t there with key in on position prior to engine start there is an issue and you will likely need to remove the ECU and perform a write flash in bootmode to recover the ECU and make it usable again. Your car is not going to start the way it is now. There are many good tools for flashing in bootmode. I shared download link for flashdock direct from my proton drive.

Thanks to everyone for the help!! Royce thanks for the proton link, prior to the engine start, the engine light is on, and it stay that way until I try to read the ECU with the KKL or MPPS cables, after nefmoto fails reading the ECU the engine light goes off and the ESP light turn on, then i cant read any information of the ecu or read fault codes... To "reconect" i need to turn off the key and turn it on again. I will get a harness to try it to read in bootmode but my budget is low rn. Thanks for your help again Royce!
